Shri Hanseshwari Temple

This temple is the symbol of our small town Bansberia. The architecture is unique and Goddess Maa Hanseswari (avatar of Maa kali)is worshipped here. It is also has Basudeva temple within the temple premises where u can find amazing terracotta sculpture. This place is a must visit if you come for a day trip at Bandel..bansberia is just 5kms away from Bandel. The prasad bhog is also very delicious and is available at 40rs voucher per head which is to be collected within 10.30am and by 1pm you can sit and have the lunch.

This temple architecture is very different from other temples in Bengal. The temple is situated in a spacious premise and Ma Kali is worshipped there. There is a Terracotta temple of Bishnu beside the main temple.

The structure of the temple is quite similar to Disneyland.

Hangseshwari Temple is situated in a small town Bansberia in Hooghly district, West Bengal. Local zamindar Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy started building the temple. But due to his death, the temple was not built within his lifetime. Later on his second wife Rani Sankari completed it. The temple has a unique architecture of Ratna style. The temple is 5 storied and consists of 13 Lotus bud shaped Ratnas or Minars. The temple complex has a Ananta Basudeva temple beside the main temple. This temple has beautiful terracotta works though many of them has been disfigured by weather or human miscreants.

Many people come here to show their devotion. If you want to offer Puja, you may want to avoid public holidays because there is always a long line of devotees. If you want to get Bhog Prasad you have to pay a nominal fee of Rs. 50/- per person as of 1st January 2024. Be sure to buy the Bhog Prasad coupon before 10 am.

To reach here, you will have to reach Bansberia station through Howrah Katwa or Sealdah Katwa local. From here you have to take Toto ride to the temple which costs Rs. 10/- per person.

🙏🙏 Beautiful and holy temple. It has a long history. This temple is now getting maintained by ASI (ArcheologicalSurvey of India). It has similar structure that we used see at Bishnupur, what we called in bangali as "Terracotta". Ghis temple has been declared as Monuments of National Importance.

Just amazing. The architecture, the beauty and the atmosphere. Calm, soothing and beautiful. The trees, the adjacent terracotta temple(closed), the staircases to relax and sit and the shiv-mandirs(closed), amazing!

Bhog probably given from 12(tickets need to be booked beforehand). Anjali(offerings) from 11 am. 1 hr gap time. Pujas can be given.

Beautiful, serene. The architecture of the temple is very different form other Hindu temples of India. This is one of the most important tourist destinations of Hooghly. Maintained well by the authorities. Shooting reels , vlogs etc is banned.

Very nice temple. The place is also good. Road connectivity is very good. I must say, it is well maintained. "Bolidaan Pratha" is not there now. You can have "Prasaad" if you want. It costs Rs.50 per packet. After covid they have introduced packet system. Earlier there was sit and eat system with temple persons serving. Now you can open the packet and eat there. If you want, you can take it to your home also. Prosaad ticket closed between 10:30-11AM depending upon the rush. One hour is enough. There is not much to do except puja.

Such a beautiful piece of architecture . Hanseshwari temple is located at Bansberia in Hooghly District. It was built by Raja Nrisinhadeb Roy in 1799 but he died in 1802 so the construction of the temple was stopped for a while. After the death of the Raja Nrisinhadeb his second wife Rani Sankari completed the temple in 1814 . The diety inside the temple is Hanseshwari , a form of Maa Adi Parashakti Jagat Janani Dakshina Kali .
It is such a calm place where you can sit and enjoy an evening .

Beside there is a Jamindar bari, but unfortunately, closed for public entry. These historical places make the area culturally rich.

To make the visit better, it would be helpful to have signs with information about the temple's history.

Shri Hanseshwari Temple is one of the fast growing visiting places for the visitors. Situated at Bansberia the family temple is well connected through bus routes as well as train ways, one can take magic cars from Kalyani Railway station to go to Triveni .From there one can take totos to go to the Temple .
One can take trains from Naihati Junction to go down at Triveni Railway station using Katwa Local ,Bardhaman local or so . Then from Triveni Railway Station one can take totos to go to to the temple.

Bansberia is an industrial town positioned in between Bandel and Tribeni. Rani Hanseswari was the mother of Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy, hence the deity is worshipped as Maa Hanseswari. The deity is worshipped as a form of Maa Kali in Hindu mythology. Premises are quite clean and great place to spend some worthy time with family. Keep in mind one thing that Some places are closed.

In December 1799, Raja Nrisinhadeb Roy Mahasay laid the foundation stone of this temple. But after completion of the second storey in 1802, the founder died leaving this far-famed temple incomplete. His second wife Rani Sankari completed the rest of the work in 1814. The temple is known for its unique ratna architecture. Rani Hanseswari was the mother of Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy, hence the deity is worshipped as Maa Hanseswari. The deity is worshipped as a form of Maa Kali in Hindu mythology. The Hanseswari temple has a distinctive architecture different from the usual pattern present in this area, consisting 13 minars or Ratnas, each built as a blooming lotus bud. The inner structure of the building resembles human anatomy.

If you want to reach this place catch trains for Bandel or Bansberia from Howrah and then by toto reach Hanseswari temple. Or you can also reach by car directly from Kolkata. You can also come from Halishahar side by crossing river.
