It is a very beautiful building situated near bab e Ali Stadium near Pari bazar locally known as Shahjahanabad in old city Bhopal. It is a round shaped circular Building which is very colorful due its decorative glasses and doors. It is also known as Gulshan-e-Alam.

It is built by Nawab Shah Jahan Begum under her rule during1868-1901. This spectacular building consists of 32 beautifully crafted decorative doors. It is having round galleries having stairs which leads upwards on the roof. The upper chamber has a dome, the pillars are round and the doors are ornate. The dome has been painted using the colors purple, yellow, orange, red, brown and green. Upstairs is a circular veranda, covered with a sheet of tin, which is based on wooden poles. Originally it had a Persian style garden, known as Jannat Bagh.

Begum, initially used it as a zoo that housed a collection of different birds. Later, Golghar was used by the Nawab dynasty as his office. It was then used by the Government Railway Police as its office. An attempt has been made to display a glimpse of the social, cultural and landscape of the time of the Bhopal Nawab.

Since 2013 State Archaeological department has conserved and maintained this as a local City museum. Clothes, diaries, House hold articles, photographs of Nawab’s era has been displayed here which gives a glimpse of the social, cultural and heritage of the City.

(Visited in September 2019) - This is a small museum dedicated to Bhopal state (c.1707-1949 CE) & there is no charge of admission. It's a simple circular building housing some interesting photos, manuscripts, artefacts etc touching various facets of life like Shaayari, markets, etc during the times of Bhopal state. Some interesting insights are thrown on the era of Begums of Bhopal, their benevolence & progressive nature. Simple & small but Must visit if in Bhopal. Request the organisers to charge a nominal fee and ensure better maintenance.

It's a small museum. The round plan has probably led to the name of golghar. It has been well maintained.

A simple yet elegant monument in Bhopal, Golghar hosts a great collection of handwritten letters, paintings, musical instruments and crafts that were once used during the Nawabi era. It is believed that this circular building was used as Shah Jahan begum’s office in early times where she had initiated training on embroidery work like zardozi and making of purses called batua. So, when in the city of Lakes- Bhopal don’t miss out to take a short trip to this museum.

Golghar was built by Nawab Shah Jahan Begum under her rule in the 19th century. It was a special center of Nawab Begum. Here she enjoyed music, poetry and she used to hear the ladies problems. Which was reasonably arranged in this beautiful building. She used to teach the female craft work of pearl wallets and various embroidery skills, today this museum is a well known heritage of Bhopal city. It's a protected monument and maintained by the ASI. Entry is free and centrally located close to the Pari Park in Shahjahanbad. It provides the brief glorious past of Bhopal through Photographs, hand works etc which are on display in this triple walled circular building.
