Bari Masjid: The meaning of the bari is "the big mosque which shows the incredible architecture styled with Bricks". It was built by Shah Sufiuddin in 14th century.
Pandua Minar: It was built by Shah Sufiuddin in 1340 AD and it is symbol of victory

One of the most underrated place in west bengal!!!
It should be one of the best tourist attractions in Hooghly district....

This place should be opened for public to watch. No maintenance.

পাণ্ডুয়া মিনার ১৩শতকে তৈরি হয়েছিল। পাশে 22 দরওয়াজা বাড়ি মসজিদ তৈরি হয় হিন্দু মন্দির ধ্বংস করে। হিন্দু মন্দির ধ্বংস করেছিল মুসলমান সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষেরা। হিন্দু মন্দিরের অবশেষ আজও সেখানে দেখা যায়। যিনি হিন্দু মন্দির ধ্বংস করেন সেই কাপুরুশের নাম ছিল সৈয়দ শাহ। তাকে এখন অনেকেই সুফি বলে। কিন্তু তিনি আদৌ সুফি ছিলেন না। তিনি ছিলেন মুসলিম ধর্মের একজন কট্টর প্রচারক। এবং কাপুরুষ একজন ব্যক্তি।

This place is one of the historical landmark in Hooghly District. There is a story behind the construction of this Minar. In the 13th Century, there was a war between Shah Saifuddin and Pandu Raja. Shah Saifuddin won the battle and to celebrate the victory this Minar was constructed as a "Vijaya Stambh". The Minar was 40 Meters long, due to a earthquake around 30 years ago, the height of the Minar shortened by 2.5 Meters. The Minar is itself one of the important Islamic construction and often compared with Qutub Minar. This Tughlaq style construction has a reduced diameter from bottom to top. Each floor of the 5 storied Minar has a terrace. The Minar was also used for Azaan purposes.

Actually it is the victory monument of Jalaluddin Shah, Sultan of Gour. Sultan was an converted Muslim emperor, who has defeated the Tribal King of Chandradaha, Mahanad by the help of other tribal inhabitants "Santals". He also demolished the Royal court named "Baish Duari", the place, where the great Poet Rami Chandidas was huntered 22 times by the Sultan Jalaluddin Shah's order.
Till 2018 the victory was celebrated as Magh Mela at the near by ground.

The main attraction of Pandua is the Pandua Minar and the Baais Darwaja Masjid or Bari Masjid.In 1340, the king of Pundooah, Panduraja was defeated by Shah Suffiuddin, the sultan of Delhi. Suffiuddin built this tower as a mark of the triumph over his Hindu counterpart. The structure later served as Ajan Minar of Bais Darwaza Masjid, which is also called Bari Masjid (big mosque).Visible from far, it looks upon a vast area that was famous for its prosperity in its heydays. The most prominent and the only attraction in the Pundooah of Hooghly are a five-storied minar (tower) and the ruins of an ancient mosque. The huge tower is around 125 ft in height. The height was reduced by few feets during an earthquake in the 19th century. At present both the Mosque and the Minar are under Archeological Survey of India. The entrance to the Minar is under lock and key.Outside the Pundooah station, you will find rickshaws waiting to take you to the minar. The roads are congested.
