One of the oldest living temple from North India. It's dedicated to Maa Mundeshwari Devi, believed to be a heaven for tantric tapasya back then. You can also see a centuries old Shivlinga and a beautiful Nandi adoring the centuries old temple. The temple closes from 12 to 12:30 PM for aarti. Wait time for darshan is 10 to 15 minutes on a Sunday. You will be mesmerised by the Nagara style architecture of the temple. There are 528 steps to the temple but a road directly reached the base of the temple. Around the temple, you will see thousand years old ruins from the temple. Kindly do not sit on those ruins as they are a rich heritage of our country.

One of the holy place of Bihar and the temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is situated
on the Mundeshwari Hills of Kaimur, Bihar. It is the oldest Hindu temple in Northern India.
No entry fee is required to visit the temple.
One has to climb few steps to reach the temple.
Along with Goddess Durga, Lord Shiva is also worshipped here.
The place is very surreal and worth visiting..

Mundeshwari Temple in Bhabhua, Bihar, is an ancient and spiritually significant site. This temple, believed to be one of the oldest functioning temples in India, boasts of a unique blend of Hindu and Tantric architecture. The peaceful and serene atmosphere at the temple complex makes it an ideal place for meditation and spiritual introspection. However, accessibility to the temple may be a challenge for some visitors due to its hilly location. Nevertheless, the historical and cultural richness of Mundeshwari Temple, along with the beautiful surrounding landscapes, makes it a must-visit destination for those interested in exploring Bihar's heritage and spirituality.

Maa Mundeshwari Temple is an ancient gem in the heart of Bihar, which holds a unique place in the history of temples around the world. It proudly holds the title of being the world's 'oldest functional' temple, with roots dating back an incredible 2,000 years. This temple is of Goddess Durga, who is known as Maa Mundeshwari. It is said that here Maa Mundeshwari had defeated the demon Mund (मुंड), and today whenever devotees come to seek her blessings, their wishes are fulfilled. There are two ways to visit this holy place: a staircase that leads to the temple and a road that covers 4/5 of the stairs. It can be reached by road from cities like Patna, Gaya and Varanasi and with the nearest railway station, Bhabua Road, situated in Mohania, just 22 kilometers away, a visit to Maa Mundeshwari Temple is both convenient and awe-inspiring. This temple attracts not only devotees but also those familiar with history and spirituality. It's offering a unique blend of devotion and tourism. It is a place where ancient heritage meets natural wonders, a testament to the enduring power of faith and history.

Love it This temple is situated on the peak of Panvara hill. Its height is about 600 feet. Between 1812 AD and 1904 AD, British travelers R.N. Martin, Francis Buchanan and Block visited this temple. According to archaeologists, the finds from here The inscription is between 389 AD which shows its antiquity. The carvings and sculptures of Mundeshwari Bhawani temple are from Uttaragupta period. It is an octagonal temple made of stone. The main attraction is the grand and ancient stone statue of Goddess Mundeshwari in the eastern wing of this temple. Maa is present in the form of Varahi, whose vehicle is Mahisha. There are four entrance doors in the temple, one of which is closed and one is half-door. Panchmukhi Shivalinga is established in the central part of this temple. The stone from which This Panchmukhi Shivalinga has been constructed in which the color of the stone also changes with the position of the Sun. To the west of the main temple, there is a huge statue of Nandi facing east, which is still intact. Here, a goat is offered as an animal sacrifice but It is not slaughtered. This Satvik tradition of sacrifice does not exist anywhere else in India. On one side, there is a road facility of 524 feet to reach the temple where light vehicles can go. There are many air conditioned and normal buses daily from the capital Patna. Trains depart for Bhabua. To come by train from Varanasi and Patna, one has to get down at Bhabua Road (Mohaniya) station located on Gaya-Mughalsarai railway line.
