The Garo Hills - Meghalaya, India

Mostly still unspoiled by " modern developmental construction, lots of places for trekking and viewing natural scenes of beauty. A Wildlife National Park called Balpakram is home to elephants, Indian bison (Mithun), and beautiful ground orchid which blooms in April.
The Garo folklore believes that after death every soul migrates first to Balpakram on the first step of the soul's journeys to the beyond.
There is also a sacred place in Balpakram [which probably was the result of a catastrophic lava flow in some dim distant past which probably also thrust up the sheer cliffs at the edge of the Balpakram plateau~ my thoughts] , called "MIMANG ANTHE" which translates from Garo as "Animal Market".
Here you can see the foot and hoof prints of dozens of animals on solid rock. (- ? the soft lava which the terrified fleeing animals may have tried to traverse? I leave your imaginations to conjure up the scenario.
There you will also see " Chi Damäk" or Dark Water which is a small stream that looks black due to its black volcanic rock bed .
