Masjid e Muhammadia

the biggest mosque in Ludhiana by area. It is just adjacent to PAU and thus also known by the name University Masjid or PAU Masjid. It is a very old Masjid and probably in existence since the time of Sanet Wali R.A who is also buried in the adjacent compound. After Partition, the Muslim population of the area migrated to Pakistan and this Masjid was abandoned. After the establishment of PAU, some Irani and Kashmiri students found the dilapidated mosque in a corner of the university and made efforts to revive it. It had been in a very bad condition and encroached upon. Muslim students worked hard to re-establish the Masjid again. Many people like Dr Zahir, Dr Sultan Dr Ishtiyaq etc who were the faculty and students at the time, contributed their time and energies to revive it. Now Masha Allah the mosque is in good condition and daily prayers are offered. It has a regular Imam and Muazzin. It is a property of Muslim waqf Board Punjab who manage it. But most of the affairs are taken care by an Intizamia committee comprising of respectable citizens of the city, university faculty and students. Some property of the mosque has been illegally occupied, like the residential quarter meant for Imam is still occupied by the family of previous Imam Sahab even after his passing away. The family also tried to erect a wall to separate the property from the Masjid. But Alhumdulilah that wall was broken twice in 2012 and in 2018 by the people. Efforts need to be made to evict the property of its illegal occupants. Similarly, the Muslim graveyard near the Masjid has some rooms which also have been occupied. I hope and pray that this Masjid is restored to its glory and its property maintained.
