This is a temporary setup for Lord Ram of Raghunathpur during festivals like Dusshera and Basant Panchmi located in Dhalpur ground kullu. Raghunath Ji are brought here in palki along with Sita mata and Anjneya. During this period all the pooja is done by the respective priest. Rest of the time Lord Raghunath (Sri Ram Chandra) resides in Raghunathpur temple.

About Raghunathji Temple

The prime attraction of this temple in Kullu is the idol of Lord Rama in his chariot. Raja Jagat Singh, the king of Kullu, obtained this famous idol from Ayodhya and built the temple in the 17th century. It is now one of sacred sites for the Hindus visiting the state of Himachal Pradesh.

Many religious activities revolve around this temple, Dussehra being one that brings in crowds of tourists and pilgrims. This festival marks the triumph of good over evil. Its celebrations include burning the effigy of the demon king Ravana and rejoicing on the return of Lord Rama back to his homeland. Decorated with lights, Raghunathji Temple has a different look during this festival season.

Legend of Raghunathji Temple

According to popular folklore, Raja Jagat Singh was responsible for the death of a Brahmin family in the Tipri village. The Brahmin set fire to his own house after the king had sent his men to bring pearls from the Brahmin. To pay for his sins, the king sought the help of a saint, Shri Kishan Dass ji at Naggar. With his advice, Raja Jagat Singh embraced Vaishnava and went to Ayodhya to bring the idol of Lord Rama, now the principal deity of the Kullu Valley.

How to Reach Raghunathji Temple

The Bhuntar Airport is around 9 km from the main town of Kullu. There are flight services to this airport from Shimla, Delhi and Chandigarh. You can hire a taxi from Kullu town to reach the Raghunathji Temple. By train, Kullu is accessible from Jogindernagar railhead that is around 125 km away.
