The Puliyal Bhagavathy temple (Puliyankavu) is located nearly 500 metres from Karinkarappully bus stop on the Chittur road.The atmosphere is very pure and quiet. Private vehicles can reach near the temple. The temple is unique in Palakkad. The temple opens only for one day during a year. The day of opening is fixed as the Monday immediately following the closing day of mandalakkalam of Sabarimala., ie the Monday coming after 41 days beginning from Vrischikam 1st every year. This will approximately be the year end or the beginning of the new year. The 2 main deities are the Kurumba Bhagavathies of whom one is represented by an idol. The temple remains opened for that day from 04.30 to 06 00, the next day. (about 25 hours continuously). Unlike Iranikulam at Aluva which remains opened for 10 days continuously during a year, this temple is kept opened for one day only. Innumerable devotees from various parts of Palakkad throng here longing for just a sight of the goddess. Cultural programmes for a few days are arranged during this period. Kazhchaseeveli and road processions are also held on this day. Annadhanam to each and every devotee is also meted out here. Every devotee should make it possible to have a darshan of the Puliyal Bhagavathy at least once in his/her lifetime.
