Unakoti rock carving is place in between Kailashahar and Dharmanagar at Tripura. It is a beautiful place to visit. According to Hindu mythology the place is godly and witness the presence of God through different story moving around Lord Shiva. The place is recognised by UNESCO as a Heritage Site. You really feel a different vibes when you enter the realm of massive rock carvings and wonder how these enormous number of rocks are curved. As for me I will visit again to witness the beauty of Sanatan culture of art and architecture.

Unique site in Tripura. An UNESCO World Heritage site maintained by ASI. These are rock cut sculptures of different Hindu Gods & Goddesses.
Free parking and free entry.
One has to follow the stairs running up & down all across the site. There are stalls serving food & condiments around the entry gate.
Nearest town is Kailashahar

Unakoti, literally meaning, one less a koti in Bengali( One less than a crore ) , hosts an ancient Shivite place of worship with huge rock reliefs celebrating Shiva. It is Shiva pilgrimage and dates back to 7th – 9th centuries if not earlier.
It is the prime tourist spot of Unakoti Tripura District in the Kailashahar Subdivision in the North-eastern Indian state of Tripura. Unakoti lies 178 km to the northeast from Agartala which has the closest airport, 8 km to the east from Kailashahar, district headquarters of Unakoti district, 148 km to the south-east from Silchar. The nearest railway station is about 20 km away at Kumarghat on the Guwahati-Agartala line.
Every year a big fair popularly known as Ashokastami Mela is held in the month of April which is visited by thousands of pilgrims. Another smaller festival takes place in January. Apart from that tourists also flock to see this marvel of nature almost every other day from different parts of the country.

It's a world renowned place. Stone carving is unique. It's 150 kms away from Agartala. Route via Khowai market is under construction yet this way is better to reach there through NH 208. It's situated at remote location so rooms and hotels are unavailable. Small stalls for snacks are available. It's entry is free,But very high and low stairs so person having knee issues have to compromise .carving are magnificent and very attractive.

The perfect combination of nature and culture in India 🇮🇳. The stone carvings/status are very old and still in perfect condition. The only thing I didn't like was that there were many names written on the stone craving, which really disrespected our ancestors' hard work, and yeah, we need to improve it a lot more.
You can easily book a car/taxi/auto/bus from kumarghat railway station. The fair is roughly around ~700-1000. He had booked a car from kumarghat(₹350/person).

From Dharmanagar I took a taxi for ₹900. The journey takes about 45 minutes. The entry to Unakoti is free. There is a toilet and a cafeteria. Unakoti is an astonishing spectacle.

Went to Kumarghat by train from agartala, fare: Rs 25. Then reached Kailashahar by Magic van, fare: 60, road is under construction, some places rough, bumpy, otherwise fine broad & traffic free. Then from Kailashahar to Unakoti updown reserve auto, fare 300. Eat something when you find chance because we didn't find good place according to our choice.

Then visited the place, no plastic allowed inside, you can carry water bottle only, you should carry water bottle because you will definitely feel thirsty after walking up the stairs. Bags can be kept within security office, but don't keep expensive items.

Toilet had no water.

It will take 1-1.30hr. Elders may not be able to walk up the elevated stairs, they can sit nearby.

Beautiful calm place, loved it.

Then we came back to Kumarghat via Dulugaon Tirupati Mandir (mandir was not fully constructed), road is bizarre. I will not recommend to go there unless road is repaired. But those tea garden view beside bouncy road was heavenly. We took same auto, fare: Rs 300, from Unakoti to Kumarghat via dulugaon, we were tired so didn't bargain much. Then took 4.26pm train and came back to agartala, train delayed due to goodstrain passing.

Unakothi known as Angkor Wat of the North-East. It is a sculptural emblem and ancient Shaivite place which hosts rock carvings figures and images of gods and goddesses.
It is a place of worship with huge rock reliefs celebrating Shiva.
Unakoti literally means "one less one crore" or "koti". It was put on the UNESCO world heritage site tentative list in 2022.

According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Shiva once spent a night here en route to Kashi. 99,99,999 gods and goddesses followed him. He had asked his followers to wake up before sunrise and make their way towards Kashi. Unfortunately, none awoke, except Lord Shiva himself. Before he set out for Kashi alone, he put a curse on the others, turning them to stone and that is how the site got its name.

Unakothi is approximately 180 Km from Agartala.

There are idols of lord shiva, lord Ganesh, lord, Chaturmukh ling, Godess Durga, Nandi, Lion, Tortoise etc.

Visitors who come Tripura must visit Unakothi.

Mesmerizing experience. Thick forest cover creates an ecological ambience in which the ancient rock carvings and structures mark their awesome presence. Very good place for birdwatching hiking trails and good for fitness. First senior citizens very challenging. State Government and Tourism should consider escalators for senior and elderly visitors. Solar power may immensely help for technological support for promoting tourism. A nominal charge from visitors may enhance the maintenance scenario. No charge for entering the heritage premises right now.

You should never miss this place if you are in Tripura.
This is one of the real marvels of India created by our ancestors for some special purpose.
The large 30 feet stone carved faces of lord shiva are main attraction here but the waterfall and jungle are a must visit thing. So, don’t forget to go deep into the forest as this is the main part of this place.

Unakoti derives its name from the Unakoti hill. Unakoti literally meaning, one less a koti in Bengali. It hosts an ancient Shaivite place of worship with huge rock reliefs celebrating Shiva. The rock reliefs of shiva, rama, ganesha are wonderful. An open temple of Tridev (Bramha-Vishnu-Mahesh) is devine.A waterfall also exits here. And on the top an small museum attracts the visitors. Recommend season to visit is from November-February.
