Kowlas Fort

Kowlas fort is massive fort dating back to the 14th century, it's located at jukkal mandal close to Bidar. The fort is spread across 400 acres. And the kowlas dam is about 20km away from the fort and attracts a larger number of bird's 🐦 in winter

Fort is deep inside the forest and you can see many carvings over there. Few are damaged but good enough to see. It will be recommended to go with someone who knows the route otherwise you will have great fun over there finding a way to go in or come out😅

A wonderful place, less explored by people.
Main entrance is open from the village next to it and one has to cross a water stream.
Fort has external wall about 2.8km and an Internal wall.
It has canons on the north eastern side of the fort.

Kowlas Samsthaan 🐎

One of the greatest forts of Telangana.
It is not in good condition. Fort is fighting a battle with the surrounded Forest and it seems Forest is leading the battle. Archeology department should speed up their work in this fort which is already in progress but very slow. Raja Kunwar Ajith singh, one of the descendents of Kowlas Rajas, is trying his best to popularize and get it recognized by the Government of Telangana.

Kowlas Fort is 200 KMs from Hyderabad and it is at the borders of three states, Telangana Karnataka and Maharashtra. It is in newly formed district of Kamareddy District, formerly in Nizamabad District, Telangana. It has business and military connections with Bidar, Bijapur and many nearby Samsthaans.

We started our journey from ECIL through outer ring Road and got down ORR at Patancheru. And from sangareddy it is straight stretch towards Nanded. Kowlas is 88 Kms away from Bidar Fort of North Karnataka and Degloore of Nanded district, Maharashtra is 25 KMs from Kowlas. There are many good places on this way to pay a visit., ANNA Sagar, Shankarampet Kila and more. Anna Sagar is one of the biggest lakes in Telangana, one can witness migratory birds in the season. Finally after a four hour journey we reached Raja Kunwar Jagath Singh Gadi, our place of stay.

In the evening we went to Kowlas Nadi (River) and spent nice time in the water, by the time we returned to Gadi it was dark. And we missed the way and wandered for half an hour and finally reached our place. Nearest town to Kowlas is Bichkunda. Next day we went to the fort and fortified wall is very long and massive. It has many watch towers and few towers holds canons. One among these canons is probably longest in the world with measurements 23 feet long. There are many Wells on the fort and one is called Elephant well, they say people used to wash elephants in this well. I saw it, it's big and looks like pond. There are two ways to enter into the fort. One from Kowlas village, this way you need to cross the Kowlas Nadi. Another is from main road.

Koulas Fort is situated near Koulas village in Nizamabad district, 169 km from Hyderabad, It is a massive fort dating back to the 14th century, spread across 6 sq km.This fort was ruled by Kakatiya rulers ,Bahamanis, Nizams.

One of the oldest forts in Telangana. Constructed by rastrakuta Kings, ruled by various successors and the last was rajput king, in 1947. Must visit, situated at kaulas village in kamareddy district.
