Rang Mahal is one of the largest monuments in Chamba that was built in the 18th century by Raja Umed Singh, the king of Jodhpur, as a residence for the royal family. It is a beautiful blend of Mughal and British architecture and its striking building has been planned to have fort-like walls that seem to touch the sky. While the palace’s interiors are decorated with exquisitely carved wooden doors, ceilings and windows, the corridors and balconies have beautiful and fine artwork. The puja and living rooms are ornamented with traditional embellishments and artefacts that majorly constitute mural paintings in typical Pahari style. One can also find a few paintings belonging to the Kangra School adorning the walls. They trace the life stories of Lord Krishna. Most of the palace’s paintings and other wares have been taken out from here and kept in different museums across the country.

Built by our kings, a historical palace lossing it's identity rapidly , structure is there of course, a few govt offices are also still there but due to negligence of govt. the monument is damaged and no time left when it is remain alive in photos, books and ofcourse in our memories.

Its nothing but heritage only. A chamba rural is the Double sided Embroidery from almost 1000 years ago from Chamba Himachal pradesh. The ladies from Chamba District used to do a technique which creat an extra ordinary technique which become usable from both side of fabric. I think this technique has a lot of potential and can be explored much to give it a good market.

Built by Raja Umed Singh in the mid 18th century, the walls of beautiful Rang Mahal palace are decorated with wall paintings depicting the life and times of Lord Krishna. There is a touch of Punjab Hills style and the architecture is greatly influenced by Mughal tradition. Later, further additions were made by Jit Singh and Charat Singh. Situated in Chamba, the palace was a women’s residence until 1947 and has now been converted into a college. Himachal Emporium, mostly famous for fine silk embroidered rumals, well executed by the Chamba women, has a outlet in the Mahal.
