We really enjoyed our stay of 5 nights at Sunset Guesthouse.

Helmi and his family provide you with all you need.
You have an awesome breakfast - always with fruits - and his wife cooks *extremely* delicious meals for lunch and dinner! (Can also be vegan or vegetarian)
Helmi will help you with all your organisational needs (ferry to arrive at/leave Bunaken, motorbike, snorkelling equipment, boat hiring for trips)
The rooms are simple but effective. At night it's usually not that hot - so the fan is enough.
And at daytime you are hopefully swimming, snorkelling, diving or exploring the island!
The sitting area is a good place to chill in the evening or when it's raining.

I had an absolutely unforgettable experience at Sunset Guesthouse on Bunaken Island. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed into a warm and nurturing family-like atmosphere by the incredible owners, Helmi and Yoke. Their constant smiles, genuine conversations, and unwavering customer-first approach made me feel right at home. They were not only great hosts but also instrumental in organizing trips and taking care of logistics, ensuring that my stay was hassle-free and packed with adventure.

And let's talk about the food – it was an absolute highlight! Three mouthwatering meals a day, each one a culinary delight that had me savoring every bite. In fact, I enjoyed the best food in Indonesia at Sunset Guesthouse. Despite indulging in diving and sports activities, I managed to gain 4 kgs in just 4 days, a testament to the scrumptious meals they served. The range of wonderful vegetarian options was a pleasant surprise, catering to all dietary preferences.

The rooms, though basic, were clean and perfectly in line with my expectations. But let's be honest, when you're in the paradise that is Bunaken, spending time in your room is the last thing on your mind. The island's beauty beckons you to explore and immerse yourself in its natural wonders.

Our stay at Helmis and Yokes place was literally a (ful)filling experience. They prepared delicious Indonesian cuisine with much love for all guests three times a day - we stayed for 4 nights and didnt even once have the same food twice. Healthy, fresh, enough for everyone and plenty vegetarian options. It's also easy to get in touch with other travellers during the shared meals.
Helmi was also a great help to arrange a trip to Mantehage Island and transport to the next destination.

Super clean and well maintained. Good wifi. located in the village where the ferry from Manado arrives. By the beach and close to the diving/snorkeling spot where I've found the highest number of turtles.
Helmi and Yoke manage this 3 bedrooms homestay in an excellent way. They look after everything and everything was perfect.
The food is simply amazing, local recepies and locally source ingredients. Food is so perfectly balanced in flavours, well presented and in generous quantity and also different every day. They accomodate every need: vegetarian, vegan, allergies, not a fun of... You really feel pampered.
Helmi and Yoke can help organising snorkeling trips or scooter rental if you need and have snorkeling gear you can borrow.
The homestay has 1 ensuite bedroom and 2 other double bedrooms which share the same toilet so there aren't many people sharing the same space. At the time of this review the price of 400k per day for 2 people includes 3 meals and tea, coffee, water, chocolate spread and jam as much as you need. Food is excellent.

Amazing experience in this homestay ! The boat from Manado stops just 100m away from the homestay. Bunaken is just incredible to see turtles, we saw around 30 turtles in one snorkeling session it was just magical. The often hide in the wall, the tour guides can tell you where to find them but it is honestly more difficult not to see some. The owners are super welcoming and can arrange you tours to go snorkeling or dolphin watching. If you want it is also possible to go snorkeling by yourself by swimming but be aware that it is quite physical. The food is literally the best we had in Indonesia, very generous portions and varied meals.

We really loved this guesthouse. It is the best value for money in the island by far. Well located near Blue Shark, cheapest diving center, the rooms are comfortable and clean, in here we ate the best food so far in Indonesia and they serve good quantity, and the hosts are just amazing. The rooms are small and basic but comfortable. Fan only, it can be a little hot at night.
I am not sure the shared bathroom was cleaned everyday, we ran out of toilet paper several times.
Great location, just in front of Blue Shark dive centre and just in front of the arrival / departure of the fast boat.

The rooms are very clean and the location is awesome! The accommodation is right on the beach - there is a sea view from the terrace.
There is very tasty food 3 times a day (very large and always varied portions), drinking water, tea and coffee included.
The family is very friendly and helpful.
I can only recommend this accommodation and would love to come back

Great location, lovely couple running the place, amazing food (and a lot), also vegetarian options. Sunset guesthouse also arrange dolphin and snorkeling trips. Highly recommended!

I am sad I can only leave 5 Stars because this place deserve more! Not only the position is literally in front of the best beach in Bunaken (in my opinion), but the family is incredibly nice, kind and gentle, Helmi and His Wife Youki are fantastic Chefs and we are Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Chicken and a lot of really good food, better than a Warung! The place itself is clean, relaxing and wonderful. I would advice anyone to stay with them, you will not regret it. Bunaken will be a fantastic memory for me

The host is amazing. With awesome food great portions and super delicious everyday every meal. Never get tired of good food. The WiFi works very nicely. You have the restaurant on the 2F with good sea view. And the host is working on a bar on the first floor which will be ready in maybe two weeks. I’m sure it will be an all time favorite by then. A excellent budget option in the island for arranging boat, dive activities, and place for stay.

Wonderful homestay. The family are very friendly, Helmi is honest and fair and I loved the jovial female elders. The food is excellent, every meal was a variety of different interesting dishes and they went out of their way to cook something different and delicious for every meal on every day. The beds are super comfy with good quality mattresses and the communal areas have squishy couches and hammocks. Also Helmi can organise boat trips, he isn't pushy at all and the prices are fair and friendly to budget travellers. The views from the homestay are really nice too.

Unser Aufenthalt im Sunset Guesthouse war wirklich sehr angenehm. Helmi und seine Frau haben uns herzlich empfangen und waren während unseres gesamten Aufenthalts äußerst freundlich und hilfsbereit. Besonders beeindruckend war die von ihnen organisierte Tour, bei der wir die Gelegenheit hatten, zahlreiche Delfine zu beobachten und an wunderschönen Schnorchelspots zu verweilen. Helmi unterstützte uns zudem bei der Organisation unseres Minibusses nach Gorontalo, was unseren weiteren Reiseverlauf sehr erleichterte.

Die Unterkunft im Sunset Guesthouse ist zwar einfach gehalten, bietet aber alles, was man für einen angenehmen Aufenthalt benötigt. Die Zimmer waren sauber und komfortabel eingerichtet, sodass wir uns sofort wohl gefühlt haben. Besonders hervorzuheben ist jedoch das köstliche Essen, das jeden Tag mit viel Liebe zubereitet wurde. Die Vielfalt der Gerichte hat uns positiv überrascht und für kulinarische Höhepunkte gesorgt.

Abschließend möchten wir uns herzlich bei Helmi und seiner Frau bedanken. Ihr herzlicher Empfang und ihre Gastfreundschaft haben unseren Aufenthalt unvergesslich gemacht. Wir würden uns freuen, eines Tages wiederzukommen und weitere schöne Momente im Sunset Guesthouse zu erleben.

Sehr herzliche Gastgeber. Sehr gutes Essen (optional vegetarisch oder vegan). Simple Zimmer mit allem was man braucht. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist top! Wir können die Unterkunft aus vollem Herzen empfehlen!

Des hôtes charmants qui vous feront goûter à la meilleure cuisine Indonésienne !!
Les chambres sont propres et agréables pour se reposer. La proximité avec le centre de plongée Blue shark juste en face vous permet de profiter pleinement du petit déjeuner avant d'aller plongée.
Vous mangez tous ensemble donc super conviviale pour les échanges entre voyageurs.
Un très bel endroit que je recommande vivement de découvrir 😊

Yoke et Helmi sont des hôtes adorables.
La guesthouse est très bien située, dans le centre du petit village, à 10m de l arrivée du bateau public !
Environnement paisible sur cette petite île.
Helmi possède son propre bateau pour des sorties snorkelling.
Nous avions la (seule) chambre avec salle d eau (froide mais vue la chaleur, pas un problème) et toilettes. Ventilateur et moustiquaire.
La maison dispose de 3 chambres uniquement. Nous partageons tous les repas avec les autres hôtes. Cela permet de belles rencontres et des échanges sur le voyage.
Et enfin, les repas sont excellents et très copieux.
