Cakalang resort and diving

My husband and I spent few days over there with Ferdinand . We felt at home and this people really makes the place special. We shared time together and it was great. I did as well my open water certificate course with Merfy. Open water went very well and the place has amazing dives sites! I highly recommend to stay here and experience the bunaken chill life.

Cakalang is the best dive resort on the island. Very friendly staff and Ferdinand has so many stories and he's great to have a beer with. Jimmy was our dive guide and I've never felt safer in the water. Will hopefully be back to visit the crew again in February 2018!

Great diving centre and resort. Experienced instructors and dive masters who will make you feel safe underwater. Equipment is good and well maintained. Friendly management and staff. I enjoyed both diving and snorkelling with Cakalang.

i went diving with cakalang last week. i felt very safe, franz took great care of me and the other divers. i would definitely recommend them. also the owner Ferdinand tells great stories over a beer or two.

Came here 5 years ago to do my Padi open water with Cakalang. I am so glad I decided to come back this year. Rooms, food and pool are great. Diving is out of this world. For me, it's just as good as Komodo or Togean islands. Divemasters and instructors are the best on the Island. Ask for Gi as a dive guide (he is pretty known in the diving world in Indonesia), this guy seriously has hawks eyes for critters.

Me and my wife started with the plan to stay only a couple of nights but eventually stayed for a whole week. We loved staying at Cakalang. Very friendly owner and staff. Delicious 3 times a day meals and very relaxed atmosphere. We spend every of our mornings snorkeling (right in front of the resort wonderful snorkeling place with 500m stretch of coral reefs), mid-days "siesta" at the pool and in the afternoon strolling trough the small village for a volcano sunset. We love to come back for some diving and de-stress at Cakalang.

Loved it! The newly renovated bungalows were nice, comfortable and roomy. Very yummy food. Friendly staff. And the dive centre was great - I did 4 happy dives — recommend

Love it! People there are just extraordinarily friendly and helpful. They allowed us to use shower in our room in the evening (long time after official check out time). The owner has thousand of stories and a lot of practical advices regarding diving or snorkeling. My dream is to come back and to get my first diving lesson with him. The tastiest dinner during all of our Sulawesi trip we had at this place. And they have dinner for all the guests at one table. Firstly we were little bit confused (cause we are more on the introvert side) but owners and great food made us relaxed and ready to interact with people. And we spent a wonderful evening there which became one of my best memories.
If you love nature and animals ask owner to shower his rare little friend. The location is wonderful. First of all Bunaken is a real place you have to go to see amazing underwater life. We were just snorkeling and saw dozens of sea turtles and thousands of fish and corals. And just in front of the hotel we met dugong - sea cow!!! Which they told us that was almost impossible to see because we stayed there only one night! I wish we stayed there at least 5 days because there’re a lot of wild nature at the land and in the sea. I hope to come back to see a huge coconut crab and couscous bear in the jungles. This hotel is a perfect base to explore all of it.
The minor issue was with WiFi interruptions which was a little bit annoying because of our job. But if you’re on a holidays that’s not a problem at all. Firstly you’re on a small isolated island and secondly just go and dive into the sea. There’re much more to sea underwater than just waisting your time scrolling social networks.
Highly recommended! Wish to come back.

Good for study dive

Ferdinand, de eigenaar is extreem behulpzaam. Hij legt je precies uit hoe je op het eiland kunt komen. Het hotel ligt aan de Mangrove wat erg mooi is. Je kunt hier ook duiken en er is een lekker zwembad. Je bent zo in het centrum en het hotel is rustig. Geen geluiden van het dorpje. Indien je wilt, kun je hier ook eten of een biertje drinken. Hemos pasado unos días increíbles en Cakalang, el buceo es espectacular y los guías muy atentos. También puedes hacer snorkel justo enfrente del resort donde hay una magnifica barrera de coral con mucha vida marina.

En la página web está la descripción detallada de las habitaciones y el entorno, es tal cual la descripción, ni más ni menos. Es decir que no esperes grandes lujos, ni agua caliente, ni aire acondicionado, y la electricidad y el wifi a veces fallan. Pero a cambio estas en absoluto contacto con la naturaleza.

Teniendo esto en cuenta, para nosotros superó las expectativas, sin duda fue un auténtico paraíso.

Gracias a Deby y Ferdinand, te hacen sentir como en casa; trato cercano, buen ambiente y comida variada y sabrosa (y se adaptan a tus necesidades y gustos sin problemas). Y si tienes la misma suerte que nosotros, compartirás esta experiencia con los otros huéspedes del resort.

Fantastic snorkelling right off shore. Went for two dives and felt very comfortable with the crew and dive master. Food was great, but breakfast could have been a bit better. Everything is cooked fresh and well, but could have used a little more variety at breakfast. The room was clean and we met some lovely people there.

Most of the accommodations on Bunaken are pretty competitively priced. Some may even have slightly bigger gaps in the mangroves to look through, but a few things set this place apart from the rest... First, they have the best food on Bunaken - dinner is made from scratch and always amazing! They have their own dive center, with good gear. And last, diving or not, the best snorkeling is just a few flipper kicks out past the mangroves - just swim out to the drop off and prepare to be mesmerized! Just beware of the currents :)
