SCHOOL BUS DINER

I've been here twice, and both times have been an amazing experience.

I ate the grand canyon burger and it was super delicious and juicy, the 300 grams of meat patty just melts in your mouth as you taste the delicious sauces, the crispy bacon and the cheese all in a full bun.

The drink options are plentiful too, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, excellent homemade lemonades and simple cocktails.

Desserts are also available in either churros or a milkshake.

This place is a must visit if you're around Budapest.

Well peng munch. Best burger and fries ever. Cool music, great vibes and aovely quirky setting. Worth the trip to get there.

Eating burgers in Hungary is very much a hit or miss proposition, with the emphasis on miss. Part of the problem is that many Hungarians' model for a hamburger is derived from McDonald's. As a result, most hamburger shops in this country seem to want to hide the poor quality and taste of their meat by hiding it beneath a plethora of spicy toppings and a bun that's at least a third too large for the amount of meat.

In Brooklyn where I grew up, a hamburger was all about the meat. Anything added beyond the meat and the minimal bun was there to enhance the flavor of the meat, not obscure it.

And so I wasn't sure what to expect at the School Bus Diner. On their website they emphasize the quality of their Angus beef. The extra toppings looked more appropriate. The bun appeared to be much closer to the right size. But until now, the only burger I had eaten in Hungary that I considered great could only be found at Pesti Burger in Budapest, which sadly no longer exists.

School Bus Diner did not disappoint. With my first bite of the Boston BBQ burger I knew I had found my new go-to place for having a great burger. The meat lived up to its advertisement and was not overcooked. The bun did its job without getting in the way. The cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce complemented the flavor of the meat, allowing it to maintain its starring role. The whole experience almost brought a tear to my eye. The sweet potato fries and coleslaw made nice accompaniments.

Beverages range from syrups and lemonades to six variations of fröccs (spritzer) to three kinds of milkshakes and a number of Feher Nyul craft beers (bottles), but no Coke and no Pepsi!

Dessert is limited to churros, Mexican sugared fried batter, and coffee. The milkshakes are listed as desserts, too, but in the US they are usually served alongside the burgers. Have it your way!

The service was great. The place is run by a fulltime chef and several students who wait the tables and tally your bill. The only table service is outdoors, and while theh atmosphere was very nice, you are sitting adjacent to what can be a heavily traveled road, depending on the time of day, and a busy railroad that includes freight trains. But for these burgers I will gladly put up with it. Take-out service is also available.

Our meal -- burgers, sides, extras, beverages, a coffee and one dessert for three people came out just north of 6000 HUF/person, or about $18 at the current exchange rate. A 10% tip is included in the bill. Parking spaces are provided.

Oh, and by the way, May 28 is National Hamburger Day in the US.

We were there last time with eight members of family. Everybody could find tasty foods in the menu. The service was very kind and fast. The meals delicious, the special drinks like are excellent. This place has a unique atmosphere ,you must to stop here and try it.

Hamburgerezi jöttem, így erről tudok véleményt alkotni. Igazán finom hamburgereket kínálnak, amelyeket frissen készítenek. Itt ettem először churrost ami isteni volt. Az ételek nagyon ízletesek és jól elkészítettek. A hely hangulata kellemes és barátságos, tiszta és rendezett, a személyzet pedig nagyon segítőkész és figyelmes. Az árak tekintetében kinek mi a drága, az én véleményem szerint picit drágább mint másutt de a hamburger finomabb is volt mint ahol eddig ettem. Az egyetlen negatívum de még emiatt sem adok egy csillaggal kevesebbet, a szék és az asztal amihez helyet kaptunk. Betudom annak, hogy nem szerencsésen jött ki a lépés, amit gyorsan kellet megoldaniuk, a foglalásunk ellenére sajnos egy billegő hordó adta az asztalt, és a székek is alig fértek el körülötte. 5-en voltunk, ez 2-3 személynek lett volna ideálisabb. Ajánlom a School Bus Dinnert mindenkinek, aki szereti a finom hamburgereket, és a hangulatos teraszokat.

Még szeptemberben voltunk, nekünk bejött eléggé a helyszín meg az ételek!

Jó hangulatú, gyors kiszolgálású hely. A hambik finomak, az adagok pedig megfelelőek voltak. Mi jó élménnyel tértünk haza.

Egy ideje szemeztünk már a sárga busszal. 🙂 Most végre útba is tudtuk ejteni. Hangulatos hely, nagyon kedves és villámgyors kiszolgálással. Boston bbq és bbq lamb hambit kóstoltunk, plusz egy churrost. 🍔 Elégedettek voltunk az ízekkel és az adagokkal is. Ha szeretitek a csípős szószokat az új mango-habanerosat ki ne hagyjátok. 😉
