Sunsail: Agana

Great trip from 16-30 September 2023 which was laughably called shoulder low season (it was not and everything was still super crowded and you had to make reservations and get to your port early).

Explicitly - Sunsail at Marina Agana was awesome. Awesome. Complaints below are more about the sailing area.

Awesome trip. Went to Solta Island, Stari Grad, Scedro Island, Korcula, Pomena (and took ferry to Dubrovnik), Laviste, Pakleni Islands / Hvar, Komiza, Vis, Bobovisce, and back with some stops to the beach at Bol, submarine pen on Vis, attempted Blue Grotto but it was closed due to waves and the Blue Lagoon.

Pros, the weather was awesome. Amazing anchorages. Even with two weeks, I think we only got to 10% of the sailing area. So much to see.

My main complaint is that I have never seen so many sailboats in a small sailing area. We came during what we thought would be lower season, and everything was still packed in anchorages. Leaving Marina Agana on Sunday morning was nuts with dozens and dozens of boats leaving. I thought the BVI was crowded during high season, that is endearingly cute compared to Croatia low season. I don’t even know what Croatia would be like during high season- nuts.

You read about over tourism, and while I loved our trip, and would come back again Croatia is the absolute definition of over tourism. The small towns you go to and the bigger ones have few locals and all businesses cater to tourists. English from tourists and locals in tourist industry is most common language. I have mixed feelings because folks like me and my party are part of the problem. It was really, really striking. Beautiful and overtourism are the two words I would use to describe a Croatia.

The only other complaint is the refueling situation in the area is a hot mess due to the lack of fueling docks, and the aforementioned, hundreds of boats that need to refuel at the same time. I recommend refueling the day before turn in.

Overall, Sunsail was great. We had a Sunsail 464 that was 3 years old and no major issues. Got up to 10 knots in 25-30 knot winds south of Hvar Island. Awesome trip.

I have just completed my RYA Day Skipper training course with Sunsail in Agana, and overall is an excellent choice for those who want to learn to sail in a beautiful and diverse location. The course provided a comprehensive grounding in all practical aspects of sailing and was delivered by a great instructor (Amy, thank you!).

The opportunity to practice sailing in a variety of conditions helped me to develop confidence and competence, and the chance to explore Croatia's stunning coastline and marinas made it an unforgettable experience. Despite being a training yacht, Anagada was very comfortable, well-provisioned and of an extremely high standard.

I would not hesitate to recommend Sunsail and this location!

What a whirlwind! The 5 day course is intense, but what a wonderful time it was. Expertly guided through the course by Michael, we had great fun and learnt so much. Michael succeeded where many other instructors have failed in cracking reliable bowline skills and the articulation of points of sail, as well as boosting our confidence so that we left feeling able to re-wire our "tiller brain" (from childhoods in dinghies and muscle memory) and mooring astern. It was the prefect mix of total professionalism (including a sea captain's beard), great humour (I am never going to forget certain day shapes and nav. lights) and a brilliant learning environment. We were met on the level we were at, and fully supported to develop and grow our skills. The recommendations for local restaurants were pretty brilliant too - you absolutely cannot fault the amazing Croatian hospitality and beautiful food. There were a few mixed messages in the pre-course paperwork, but things were ironed out fairly quickly. I would recommend that you make sure that you are fully prepared for the course when you arrive as there is SO much to cover, and the weather this week was insanely changeable - gusting 30kts one day, and 2kts another... which may mean you can't cover the whole syllabus. Thank you Michael and Team Sunsail for a truly excellent week - I'm pretty sure we will be returning if/when we can!

A great experience with very professional staff. From the provisioning to transfers the start of our bareboat charter went very well. The outboard wouldn’t start at one point during the week and without question a high speed service vessel was dispatched, arriving at our yacht within the hour with a replacement outboard. There is a restaurant / bar at the Sunsail marina with other dining options close by. The supermarkets that are close are basic so would recommend using Sunsails provisioning service.

We chartered our first ever sailboat from Sunsail Agana and had a fantastic experience. I had been on 2 previous charters (catamarans in Caribbean) through the Moorings and another company, but was not involved in chartering those.
Sunsail made everything easy with lots of valuable boat and destination information available in advance of our trip as well as onsite. I really appreciated their comprehensive chart briefing in person. The boat checkout and checkin crews were very efficient, I can say that process was MUCH smoother than what we experienced previously in the Caribbean.
The Sunsail 44 monohaul was in good shape with only a few minor issues that did not impact our trip. At the end of peak season, that's pretty good!
The trip itself was amazing of course. For first time charter ease, probably cannot beat the Dalmatian Coast!

We recently completed the Wine and Food flotilla with Sun Sail and eight other sailboats based at Marina Agana just a little north of Split. It was absolutely wonderful. We loved the flotilla format as it takes a lot of stress of not only finding a home for you and your boat every night, but there's a skipper/leader, another social director/skipper and a mechanical technician to fix anything that goes wrong along the way. Plus a new winery tour and tasting at each little seaport city could not have been better.
We've been on a flotilla before but never received the level of personalized help, guidance and support as we had this time.
Hats off to our phenomenal skipper, Joel, the second skipper and social director Amelia and our technician that worked absolute magic, Jervoia.
You will have the best time of your life if you are lucky enough to have all three of them with you but any one of them will still put your sailing over the top.

We did the Agana Croatia Food and Wine Flotilla 10 Jun on boat Idem and have to say we had the most amazing time! We met such a great bunch of people, and Croatia is absolutely stunning! Our lead boat team really made the holiday. Amelia was a fantastic hostess, so knowledgeable, she took us to some brilliant places, the tours and transfers were expertly choregraphed from start to end. Joel the lead Skipper was brilliant, his continual support, and calm demeanour instantly removed any stress from any situation particularly birthing each day. Hrvoje (aka John, aka Harrison) the technician could not do enough for you, any minor issues that arose were expertly fixed there and then, and he'd do battle for you when necessary to get you electricity, and make sure you're settled for the evenings. Honestly, we were so very impressed with our lead crew, they absolutely made our holiday, nothing was too much trouble, and it was clear they all genuinely wanted us to have the best time! Thank you Sunsail, and the biggest thank you to Amelia, Joel, and Hrvoje!

My friends and I recently completed a wonderful 1-week flotilla out of the Sunsail Agana base near Split, Croatia. I've been fortunate enough to enjoy several Sunsail flotillas in the Med over the years, and they have all been memorable. This flotilla was no different, but we were exceptionally fortunate to have had an excellent lead crew, perfect sailing conditions, and a comfortable, spacious, as well as swift, 47' monohull.
Our hostess Gloria, our skipper Matt, and our engineer Bika were a superb lead crew. They were professional and thorough but also funny, enthusiastic, and all around great people - thanks to all 3 of you for having our backs and making us look like better boaters than perhaps we really are.😎
I must also compliment our 47' sailboat, which was a joy to call home for 7 days. It was in excellent shape and surprisingly swift. In moderate winds we routinely hit 7-8kts and flirted with 9kts on our last day, which was a great way to end the trip. The 3 cabins and 3 heads were very comfy, and we had no operational problems (push button toilets, what a treat!). Instrumentation provided a wealth of info, while the large bimini provided much needed protection from the very toasty, Croatian summer heat - and admittedly, the AC was a guilty pleasure. The main & jibsheet rigging seemed to be setup for solo-sailing and took a little getting-used-to, but otherwise, all was good.

wir haben eine Woche einen Katamaran bei Moorings/Sunsail gechartert - vom ersten Augenblick /Empfang an waren wir begeistert-super nettes freundliches Team, alles super sauber - der Kat war in einem hervorragenden Zustand, professionelle technische Einweisung und persönliche Tipps rund um den Urlaub - ebenso die Rückkehr und Rückgabe! Danke an Mirna; Petr, Antonio und Ihr ganzes Team- wir freuen uns schon auf den nächsten Urlaub hier in diesem Traumhaften Segelrevier!

Hezká marína, kde i bez objednání vás s lodí přijmou. Pochvala patří obsluze maríny, která nám při problémech s lodí z důvodu vyššího větru a ve finále výpadku propeleru velmi pomohla při zachycení v lanec. Patří vám velké díky. Zázemí sprch a záchodů velmi čisté. Pochvala dále i milé obsluze na recepci. Noc s lodí 50 stála 625HRK.
