Maranatha Beach Camp

Lovely camp right where the river meets the ocean. Cozy rooms, nothing luxurious, but has everything you need (electricity and clean washrooms). Perfect place to escape Accras chaos or to just enjoy some peace and quiet when travelling Ghana. Would absolutely recommend!

A mini heaven on earth is the best description of how I felt at Maranatha.
You’ll enjoy if you have the mindset of connecting with nature. It was a solo trip experience and I can’t wait to back there and feel the peace of mind I enjoyed.

Surrounded by islands, Maranatha is where the sky and sea meet. The trees, sun and sounds bring tranquility that one’s soul needs to feel away from the city stress.
The rooms are simple and not fancy. They have no amenities like fridge, fans etc and staying in them make you feel like you’re truly camping in nature with just a chair and bed. Prices range from 80gh to 250gh and reservations can be made via call or WhatsApp.

The great thing about this place is that it allows guest bring their own food, drinks and snacks.
A 3hr drive from Accra, it’s best to walk through the community to the place as opposed to going by boat which costs 80gh in and out (unless of course you want to experience the boat ride)

I loved the bonfire nights of sitting in silence and feel the sea breeze and sounds. Also loved that the sheds at the shore has sockets to charge your devices.
Catching the sunrise while relaxing in the hammocks and watching the sunset while sitting at the shore was a such inexplicable experience.

The waters were so clear and clean. The tides are high so matter how much of an inexperienced swimmer you are, you’ll still feel the water at waist level right at the shore and have great fun.
I didn’t eat from their restaurant so i can’t comment on that aspect but the washrooms could be better (that was the only downside for me)

*TRAVEL TIPS*

1. TRANSPORTATION: There’s a secure location to park if you’re driving there. If you’re going by public transportation, pick Ada Car from any major station in Car. Continue in a taxi from Ada station to Ada Foah at a fee of 10gh. You’ll be dropped at the last stop and pick an Okada ride for 5gh to the community where you’ll be directed to the Maranatha camp if you’re walking or to a boat ride.

2. FEEDING
Please buy your own bottles of water, snacks, drinks, bread and any edibles on your way as food is quite costly. I’d advice you get instant coffee mix or tea for your breakfast and lots of drinks (their drinks cost 5x the price in Accra)
For lunch and dinner, it’s best you move out and try other spots around so you have a total experience of the Ada Community. I’d suggest Tsarley Korpey and Heartland Hotel because they have great options (check out their reviews on my page)

3. EXTRA
Travel essentials like towels, sunscreen, mosquito repellent spray and water bottle definitely needs to be packed
Extra cash for movements in and out of the camp is important

Overall with great planning and preparation, you’ll have an awesome experience in Maranatha.

Maranatha Beach Camp is located on the Volta River Estuary just over 2 hours from Accra. Accommodation is in simple but clean beach huts with the river and sea a few metres from the camp. It is the perfect place to relax and swim. Evenings can be spent by the bar, with a bonfire, music and dancing at the weekends. Profits from the camp go directly to supporting the local community school.

Wow, what a place.. what a vibe.. pristine, clean, white sand beach. Beautifully placed, one side is Volta River and other side is Atlantic Ocean🤩 we loved the the hospitality, they also allowed to carry outside food and drink. If you looking for beach shacks to stay at dirt cheap rate, this is the place.. just keep add, they have common toilets..

Great experience. You have to cross a lagoon to get to the beach camp. The rooms are comfortable and you can choose between the hut with sea sand or the cemented floor rooms. Food is great but takes a long time to prepare so order in advance. You can take a boat to tour the place and visit the crocodile island and the rum island as well. Cost can be split by number of people in the boat.

It's very local and welcoming environment.
With loving people, also their foods are delicious and affordable. Rooms are the cheapest among Ada beach resorts. Above all most of their profits made contributes to the development of the community.

The experience at Maranatha beach camp was lit 🔥 and my friends and I loved it…and Chris,one waiter there was so good,top customer service,big ups man.

We stayed for a weekend and it was a truly pleasant experience. Good food (make sure you order in advanced), good lodging and nice people. Its a bonus knowing the money you spend there goes to help out the local school and community.

One of my favourite getaway spot, is so lively here, there are dormitories, huts with sandy floors or cemented floors at affordable rates.

Had some awesome parties at this place. If you're lucky the beer is cold!
