Chicken will strongly disagree but this is an experience you should not miss if you ever end up in Paga. You will most likely never again get this close to these amazing reptiles, and live to tell the tail. The peaceful co-existence of crocodiles & humans is most remarkable and unique.

It was such an amazing experience. The guide called one crocodile from the pond by whistling, then threw a fowl to it which it caught midair, bite it twice then swallowed the poor fowl whole. After that it laid there quiet and we took pictures with the crocodile by squatting on it and also raising it's tail. The back of the animal is as hard as brick. But not everyone in my group had the courage to squat on the croc to take pictures.

If sitting on a live crocodile is on your bucket list, and surviving the experience then Paga is the place to do it. Located not far from the Burkina Faso border, the village of Paga has a special relationship with crocodiles. The crocs protected the humans in the past, and today the humans protect the crocs. Our guide said he could swim in the crocodile pond and they would not bother him. He would not make the same claim for me. After sitting on the 100 year old animal (counted by stones) they throw him a chicken and he comes to life with shocking speed to chomp down on his prey. If you're in the area, this is a must do, if only to be able to say, you've done it and survived.
