This church was build in memory of Johannes Zimmermann from the Basel Mission. J. Zimmermann was a missionary, clergyman and translator of the Basel Evangelical Missionary Society of Switzerland. He translated the entire Bible into the Ga language. In 1855 J. Zimmerman traveled to Odumase where he was warmly received by the then Paramount Chief, Odonkor Azu. J. Zimmerman was key in the growth and development of Christianity in this part of Ghana.
