The mother of Schools for the Deaf in Ghana; a congenial atmosphere for training hearing impaired, deaf and deaf-blind students to become the best version of themselves. Demodeaf; Together We Build is its Motto.
It is one of the pioneer schools for the deaf established by Andrews Foster. It was started as a demonstration school in 1968 for the special education college.
The school is a boarding institution and has Kg, Primary, JHS and Deafblind departments. It also has a hair dressing academy, a tailoring and dressmaking academy and a bead and shoe making department. Students interested can enroll to acquire vocational skills leading to self employment upon graduation. They are guaranteed NVTI Part I and II certificates.
The school is walled providing security for students. It has a student population about 440, teaching staff population of 48 of which 15 are deaf or hard of hearing.
The school has a Speech and hearing assessment center, a basket ball court and an ICT lab.
However, it lacks a proper adminstration office and an assembly hall for the students. It has lots of uncompleted and dilapidated structures and a bad football pitch. Although walled, the school has too many access routes which is inconvenient for the security of the students.
