Uprise Travel Reviews

Uprise Travel was a wonderful agency to work with. They were responsive to all my requests in a timely fashion before and during travel. We originally booked this trip in October 2021 for December 2022 with a family group of 11. We had to postpone our trip to the following year, but Uprise honored their word and applied our deposits we previously paid to the subsequent date. At the last minute, 7 members of our group backed out, but our Travel Advisor Naa and the Uprise team made accommodations for our small group to keep it affordable for us without sacrificing quality.
I loved the diversity of the planned itinerary from the start: from the cultural heritage events, to the botanical gardens, to the cooking class. Having a knowledgeable guide like Chrstopher (who is a very safe driver, by the way) enhanced our understanding and appreciation of the Ghanaian people, culture, and customs. I especially appreciate how he often worked with the restaurant staff to help tone down the spice level of my daughter's food since she has a low tolerance for spiciness. All of the hotels were very nice, and the food was delicious. If you want to experience the best of Ghana, then I highly recommend Uprise Travel. They made our family's first ever international trip together, and our first experience in the Motherland a highly successful and memorable one.

It's challenging to recap into words succinctly what my family and extended family of 14 persons experienced as our part of our 10 day/9-night customized north to south tour in Ghana. Our experience with the Uprise Travel team inclusive of Naa, Musah and King Bright was exceptional. Just as Uprise states…from the moment your travel advisors connect with you to begin planning your tour until the moment you meet your guide; Uprise is responsive and supportive of your request. My husband and I started planning our birthday celebration journey in January for a tour that occurred in November. We expressed the desire to have a historical, cultural, adventurous tour inclusive of relaxing on the beach. Uprise curated this experience and so much more. Our excursions far exceeded my expectations in every regard.
Planning/Itinerary: The travel tips and advice were on point all the way down to the particulars regarding the exchange of money. Setting up the group chat on What's App proved very efficient and beneficial to accommodate the size and dynamics of our group to ensure communication and updates occurred timely. Our tour was comprehensive and inclusive of every experience we desired and more. Upon meeting Musah and King Bright, his name certainly encapsulates his character, we were well taken care of. We had a multi-generational group inclusive of young and mature travelers and the itinerary was enjoyed and will be savored by all. Our trip was life changing!
Risk Mitigation/Security: King Bright traveled with our group for the duration of our tour which was comforting for our group. Having someone who has such great knowledge of the culture, the itinerary, relationships with people and establishments that we would encounter along the journey was comforting. We were always in great hands and care. King Bright gave us his very best at all times!
Accommodations: We selected a mix of standard and premium accommodation throughout our tour in Accra, Tamale, Cape Coast and the Volta region. All of them with the exception of one, Coconut Grove were above par. Coconut Grove didn't have hot water and the rooms weren't exemplary of the nice property grounds and coastal views offered on the property. The capstone accommodations at The Royal Senichi to end our tour experience were simply exquisite!
Food/Gastronomy: All of the food choices were good in terms of quality and selection as well as taste and preparation. There were accommodations made for our vegan and pescatarian group members.
Excursion: From the beginning, flight to Tamale to experience the safari at Mole National Park, to the end, cruise on Lake Volta, and every excursion in between was exceptional. We packed a lot into our 10-day itinerary and accomplished it all. We asked ourselves, what experience if any would we have foregone to have a bit more sleep or a day to just veg and we wouldn't have elected to eliminate any one of them. Even when we tried to do away with one excursion, our trusted guide King Bright, put on his high life tunes and ripped the roads of the Volta region to get us to the Monkey Sanctuary and supreme serine Wli Waterfalls which was absolutely a highlight to behold. We ALL left it ALL in Ghana.
We wanted a "boots on the ground" tour guide and partner who would provide an enriching experience for the value spent. One with knowledge, experience and a proven track record in terms of professionalism and service. Uprise proved to be an exceptional partner and far exceeded our expectations holistically. Their level of expertise and care provided ensuring that we had a five-star experience is beyond words. We're chomping at the bit to have another amazing experience with Naa as our travel advisor, King Bright as our guide and Musah's leadership as our forever partners as we travel West Africa! Medasi Team Uprise! ❤

I had the pleasure of having Uprise travel make my trip an experience. From the moment of contact, I knew I was in great hands. Esi guided me through the initial steps that were needed so I would be able to enter both countries. I informed her I would like to go to Senegal and Ghana. She emailed me a couple of itineraries and prices. I chose Senegal- Ghana Cuture and History Tour. Esi made it so easy. When I arrived in Senegal, I was met by Laity at the airport. He guided me throughout Senegal. He was full of information and very patient. He answered all my questions and made sure all my needs were met. Then off to Ghana. I arrived and had Abdul-Aziz waiting on me. Another great guide. He was also full of information and patient and guided me throughout Ghana. One day, the owner was close by and came to meet me to see how everything was going. Can't beat that. I visit museums, monuments, safari, restaurants, and three different houses of Slaves and much more. I stay in four hotels throughout my two country stay. I asked for a 5* hotel. I wasn't let down. Would I recommend Uprise Travel absolutely? Would I use them again absolutely.

I had the good fortune to use Uprise Travel on my recent trip to Ghana. I went with a group of 20 friends, family and neighbors. The staff at Uprise Travel made this a trip of a lifetime for me. We were greeted at the airport upon arrival with a huge sign that read "Welcome Home" and that sign set the tone for the rest of the trip. We were treated like family from the beginning to the end of the trip. Our tour guides were Emmanuel and Amanda. They were the best. They were always available to help with special requests such as finding seamstresses and tailors to sew custom outfits for us to accompanying me on mini shopping excursions in town when my fellow travelers were to tired to venture out. Dennis and Emmanuel #2 were our bus drivers. They were very skilled and professional and I felt zero anxiety about falling asleep on the bus while traveling between locations. If you are searching for a travel agency to help make your dream of visiting Ghana come true definitely consider using Uprise Travel, they know what they are doing!

My daughter and I are filled with deep flowing emotion and are forever connected to our homeland and Ghana. Every part of the trip was meticulously planned and executed. Our guide Kwame, is very knowledgeable and took such great care of us. It was important for me to give back and Kwame arranged a visit to the the Cape Coast School for Deaf/Blind. It was one of the most memorable moments of my time in Ghana. If you are planning a trip to Ghana, you will be in the best hands with the staff of Uprise Travel.

Visiting Ghana was definitely on my bucket list especially after doing 23&Me, and finding out that a significant portion of my DNA was Ghanaian. During the pandemic I decided that life is too short and really wanted to take my mother who is in her late 70s back to the motherland. My sister and I planned the trip for a couple of years so that we could mom’s celebrate her 78th birthday there. I was particularly interested in finding a locally-owned agency and Uprise Travel fit the bill. They were great at connecting and communicating, worked with me on a customizing the trip and were very affordable. The fee included a guide/driver, Kwame, all gas, all water and all accommodations tour experiences and maybe 95% of the food - which was fine because food is very inexpensive there. Actually, everything is very inexpensive. We had a choice between a regular and a premium package based on hotel cost. The regular package was fine with nice accommodations wherever we went. We spent most of our time traveling around the coast and south east corner of Ghana and had many wonderful experiences. The main drawback is that there was a lot of driving involved - mostly due to the condition of the roads. This was more of a cultural tour, because we really wanted to visit the slave dungeons on the Gold Coast. The next time we go, we will definitely visit the north of the country so that we can see more of the wildlife. The culture is also very polite so if you say you want to do something then they’ll do it even though it may not be the best idea so you have to be upfront and let them know that it’s OK to give an alternate recommendation based on their experience.
Special shout out to Kwame, our guide and companion during our Ghana adventure! Kwame is a true reflection of the Ghanaian people with his friendly and welcoming nature, kindness, patience, knowledge, and willingness to converse about the country and people he loves so much. He even arranged a special birthday celebration for my mother, which we will never forget. We started out with a guide, but ended up with a new friend.

I cannot recommend Uprise Travel more highly. I took their 9-Day tour of Ghana, Togo, and Benin.
Aside from the incredible sights and experiences in those countries, what really made the trip the best tour I've taken was their terrific staff. I booked *very* late (think a week or two before departure) but somehow their office (thank you Esi!!) managed to pull together the entire itinerary AND arrange a Ghana visa in literally a few days (including over a weekend!).
Just to give you a sense of how well taken care of I was, they had someone who met me after disembarking my flight *before* customs & immigrations, who personally escorted me past all the to-me-bewildering lines & crowds to a dedicated officer.
The tour was a mix of nature (including a wildlife preserve, a hike to the spectacular Wli Falls--the tallest falls in West Africa--where we had the entire site to ourselves), food (the guide made sure I got to try so many different local dishes, in each country & region), culture (we spent an awesome afternoon with a Kente cloth weaver, to name but one), history (visits to the various slavery sites along the coasts), shopping (several fantastic markets), and so many other fascinating stops. One that really stands out was seeing the 100-foot tall statue of a Dahomey woman warrior in Benin.
I have to give a special shoutout to Azziz, my guide in Ghana, and Joshua, my guide in Togo and Benin, and Guy the terrific driver in Togo and Benin. Knowledgeable, experienced, fun, scrupulously professional, all of them. Honestly, it felt like I was traveling around with friends -- that's how comfortable they made me feel. (They also navigated me through the to-me confusing border crossings between the three countries. I don't think I could have made it through on my own!)
There were quite a few times when we stopped at my request to see things that caught my eye -- like the closed & abandoned funky 1970's beach resort hotel Hotel de la Paix in Lomé -- and that kind of flexibility is more than what you can hope for on a trip like this. (I should also mention that the hotels along the route were all great, including some pretty high-end ones. But somehow Uprise has managed to keep their tour prices was very cheap.)
I mentioned in the headline that this was the best Africa tour I've ever taken -- and that includes trips to Zimbabwe, Bostwana, Zimbabwe, Senegal, and Egypt.
My advice is basically -- if you're looking to travel to this region, this is a terrific company. Do it! (I'm already dreaming of coming back.)
Date of experience: March 2024

I had the most incredible experience in Ghana, thanks to Abdul, our exceptional tour guide. His profound knowledge enriched our journey, making every moment a learning opportunity. Abdul's protective nature ensured our safety, and his genuine care made us feel like family. Without a doubt, our adventure wouldn't have been as remarkable without him. Highly recommend his expertise for an unforgettable tour. Great Job Uprise!

Uprise Travel did an excellent job with our tour to Ghana. I decided to visit Ghana after reading an article about he “Year of Return, Ghana 2019”. I worked with my best friend to choose a tour group for this trip and we chose Uprise Travel and they DID NOT disappoint us. Emmanuel was an excellent tour guide who went above and beyond to cater to us and made sure that we all (8 of us in the group) had a great time. Our driver John made sure to keep us safe as we traveled from Accra, to Kumasi, to Cape Coast and back to Accra. It was a trip of a lifetime and I enjoyed every bit of it, the culture, cuisine, the people, their art, clothing, fabric, EVERYTHING. I recommend traveling to Ghana and using Uprise Tour. Ask for Emmanuel as your tour guide and John as your driver.

I highly recommend the Cultural Heritage tour for all children of the Diaspora and doubly recommend having Uprise Travel usher you through this journey.
From the time of the inquiry UpriseTravel was extremely professional and responsive, working with us to crest the experience we wanted. Once booked Freda checked in with us to ensure that we had everything we needed for a successful trip. Five days before our departure Uprisetravel set up a WhatsApp Chat group to introduce us to our guide.
Upon arrival at the Airport in Accra, we did not have to look for the Uprisetravel agents as they found us as soon as we came through the doors. We were greeted with a cheerful, warm welcome by Edna and YaYa that made us immediately feel like we were home.
Once Edna got a settled in our hotel, they took up to a local restaurant for a delicious lunch and trip orientation. From that point on Edna ensured that we were able to see and experience everything we thought we wanted and even some we never knew of. I can’t even begin to capture all of the enlightening facts and sites we heard and saw during our 10 day journey across Ghana’s southern region, it was one of the best experiences of my life.

I have only wonderful things to say about Uprise Travel. Our guide Emmanuel became family on this trip. His love for and knowledge of his country made our time in Ghana an even more unforgettable experience. He was always on time, incredibly thoughtful and flexible when we decided to shift plans or add something to our itinerary. We felt like he always had our best interests top of mind. He also helped us vet other places and businesses we were interested in that fell outside of our scheduled itinerary. Moving through the country you could tell that Uprise is a very well respected business. We also had an amazing driver, Thomas, with us the entire time who knew the roads like the back of his hand and always made us feel safe and looked after. It was the first time in Ghana for everyone in our group and we walked away with so much gratitude and love for the country, the culture and the people. I would most certainly recommend Uprise to anyone looking to book a trip to West Africa!!

I had an amazing 9 days in Senegal for my solo tour. Mamoudou and Cheikh were my guide and driver. Both super helpful and efficient. I believe them being from the country we toured made for a more authentic and immersive experience. We would see people that they knew and were friends with while out and about and everyone made me feel welcome and accepted. Activities were planned in advance and the process was so thorough and seamless. They were also really accommodating and let me change the schedule as needed. It was just an amazing process from booking to completion. I fully intend on using Uprise again for my next visit to west Africa!

This was the BEST Trip I have ever taken. From start to finish, this was an AMAZING experience. Naa, King, and Michael were wonderful! The customer service was top-notch. As we prepared for the trip, Naa made certain we had all of the necessary paperwork in order! She stayed connected to us while we were on the trip. King Bright is the BEST TOUR GUIDE EVER!!!! Mr. King was very knowledgeable and personable. Because he is well-known throughout Ghana, he took us to some great spots!
Thank you again King for the Palm Wine (my new Favorite drink). Michael, our driver, assured us that we arrived safely and on time to our destinations. The activities were amazing and life-changing! I highly recommend Uprise Travel. I think all Africans of the Diaspora should visit Africa at least 1 time in their lives and should visit, they need to work with Uprise Travel!!
Again, this was such a wonderful experience. Because of this experience, I feel like I have new family members!!
Medaase!! Medaase!!! Medaase!!

I simply cannot say enough about Uprise Travel. They were so professional and took such great care of my family and I while we were in Ghana. They literally took care of everything and I was able to just sit back and enjoy my time in the country.
From my first encounter with them, they took time to find out what we wanted and needed and tailored an experience just for us. Our tour guide Kwame and driver Kofi became family over the course of the 9 days. We traveled from Accra, to the Volta lake/rivers to Kumasi over to the Cape Coast and back to Accra and had the most amazing time. Ghana is such a beautiful country and its people were so warm and welcoming to us. Many thanks to Uprise travel for making our trip unforgetable!

I just returned from a amazing, fun, fulfilling and transformative 9 day trip to Ghana. We utilized Uprise Travel, and they created the perfect itinerary! We were a group of 8, and our trip was based on their Cultural Heritage tour of Ghana with some modifications based on our group's preferences. We did so many wonderful activities and saw different aspects of Ghana which gave us a much more well rounded experience.
From the start Naa was helpful, professional, organized and effectively communicated all that we needed to know in order to get ready for our trip. She set the tone for a positive experience from the start.
Once we arrived in Accra, we were met promptly at the airport and then taken to our first hotel. From then on it was a wonderful adventure of experiences throughout Accra, Kumasi, the Ashanti region, and Cape Coast. Our tour guide Emmanuel, and John our driver (the "dynamic duo"!) were simply wonderful hosts! They went above and beyond to meet our needs (whether individually or as a group). They were fun, attentive, customer focused, extremely helpful, energetic, knowledgeable, protective, focused on safety and very passionate about their country and culture. I could go on and on about them! Our entire group felt like they were they cornerstone of our excellent experience. By the end of the trip, they truly felt like family!
Overall, based on my experience, I'd highly recommend using Uprise for your West African experience. I've already recommended them to several friends and family members. This was my first trip "home" to the continent, and it has wet my appetite for more visits and exploration. I will certainly use Uprise travel again in the future as I continue to get to know this amazing continent.

For my 70th birthday I chose to visit the motherland, Ghana. I was charged with doing the organizing for the trip that included my siblings, kids, and spouses. There were eight of us. All I knew was we wanted to visit the door of no return at Cape Coast. Then the kids wanted a safari. I soon saw some of the trips being hosted by Uprise Travel. We took the leap and worked with Freda to design a trip that included the items of interested and we later added the WEB DuBois Museum. During the trip we visited Accra, Tamale, Mole National Park, and Cape Coast. Uprise did everything they promised and more. They assisted us with our visa applications, timely met us at the airport, the transports were adequate and comfortable. Most of all our guide Bright was a hero! He became a part of our family. He informed us, entertained us, and protected. Everywhere we went people knew him, he always had a smile and sought to make the best of every circumstance. Once we were a little ahead of schedule, he identified the local museum of world famed artist Ibrahim Mahama. It was most unexpected but fit right in, it is among the highlights of our trip. Bright did not know the trip was a celebration of my birthday until the actual day of; somehow, he arranged for a surprise birthday cake. He was always attentive and flexible.
All of my group highly recommend Bright and Uprise.

It is one thing to read about the enslavement of Africans in a text book and quite another to be immersed in the what they endured. Uprise Travel provided that experience for my friends and I. The haunting smells of the dungeons, the walk along the path where they walked to be seared with a branding iron, being in the river where they took their last bath, standing on the original floor, paved with the feces, urine and sweat of my ancestors was deeply moving and unforgettable.
I want to thank Uprise Travel and their team, Naa, Emmanuel and John for making this possible. It was obvious that the best narrators of our history were chosen to speak with us at each stop. The story as it was told was carefully organized. The history on each leg of the tour was consistent even though it was being told by narrators who may not have met each other and were located hundreds of miles apart.
If you're looking for a truly transformative experience and want to know the truth of the dungeons camouflaged as Castles and that of the enslaved people who were striped from their land. I highly recommend this tour.

This is the best tour group I have ever had the pleasure of booking with! From the time they picked us up to the time they brought us back to the airport they were professional, courteous, and organized. The entire team was great but our Tour guide Emmanuel was exceptional! I would highly recommend this agency again.
