Blickling Mausoleum

My great, great grandfather who fought in both world wars and loved to play Ker-Plunk whilst donning flippers, would often scrape moss off of the mausoleum with his bare back -- The family as well as Blickling villagers sometimes asked why he did this, but who are we to question the integrity of a man who never won a game of Ker-Plunk because he played it solo?

A beautiful walk and a lovely spot for a picnic. I confess that I did not know the pyramid was here until I stumbled across it, which was a magical surprise for my children and I. The kids really enjoyed the echoes as they shouted into the windows.

An impressive dark pyramid in the middle of the woods. Interestingly it does have windows (no glass) and an impressive echo if you shout into them indicating it's completely hollow.

Well worth a visit - a bit of a walk. May get the history sorted out soon!!

Mausoleum built 1793 to a design by architect Joseph Bonomi to the memory of John Hobart, Earl of Buckingham (d.1793). It's listed grade II*. Not easy to find and a long walk on estate tracks. Worth finding though because it is a most unusual and interesting monument. Not possible to enter inside it and it is enclosed by iron railings.

Extraordinary mini pyramid in the middle of the rambling Blickling NT estate. Woods make great exploring for children and grown ups. Small extra car parks around the park are available without booking (unlike main car park).

Go for a walk, love it great day out with the boys, fresh air and food, the best type of days

Worth a look if you're walking nearby. Spooky feel to it, looks like something straight out of a sci-fi film.

Lovely walk through the estate, makes a change of you've been to the hall before to see what the rest of the park has to offer. Beautifully peaceful
