Bayeux War Cemetery

In many ways this cemetery is far more moving than the US cemetery at Omaha Beach (although it's not a competition).The setting is not as grand, but the age and the personal messages on the tombstones from surviving family members are very very moving.

Incredibly moving, and beautifully planted. Coming in may and seeing the flowers is a wonderful reminder how life is precious and beautiful and how that contrasts with the amazing sacrifice those young soldiers made. Amazing, but it tugs at your heart strings. God bless all those who risked their lives, and especially those who did not return home <3

A beautiful well kept cemetery that's a credit to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. So many young men have their final resting place here and it makes you reflect on their sacrifice.

Mine and my family is experience at the cemetery was something to remember for the rest of our lives.

Well maintained cemetery. Worth visiting to think about all those who had to die to bring peace to the world. Lest we forget.

Visited on a rainy and bleak weather day. The cemetery is so well kept. A credit to CWGC staff. Whilst there we spoke with the ground’s staff who were so detailed and careful in their work. Cutting sharp edges to each headstone, clearing leaves and debris. Carefully Polishing the bright work of plaques and records vaults. One particular story had me choked up. (I’m ex Para) 9th Battalion, Private Emile Corteil a young 19yrs Paratrooper who accompanied by his beautiful dog Glen landed on 6th July 1944. Both safe landing but later both were killed. They are buried together. So sad. So young but have each other in life and death. The inscription broke me. It says, Had you known our boy you would have loved him too.

An incredibly moving place to visit. It manages to convey both the scale of the losses suffered by British and Commonwealth forces, but it is also intensely personal due to the personal messages from family members on all the headstones. The grounds and graves are immaculately kept with each grave also having plants and flowers from the UK growing just in front. It brings tears to my eyes just writing this review.

So moving and so important to learn. I took my children so that they would understand the history of the area and of the 2nd world war.

A sombering experience to view the British way cemetery

Beautiful resting place for British and Commonwealth service men and German soldiers who paid the ultimate price.

An exceptional place to visit during the D-Day 75 Anniversary. The place is huge, lucky to visit with 2 veterans.

Obligatory. Touching. British and German soldiers buried in the same ground. Heartbreaking.

A beautiful and very serene site, walk around and remember how those buried here fought and died for freedom from tyranny

Worth a visit. Made me realise and understand even more the importance of D-day for European freedom.

strong place very personal messages on graves until one is crying

So eye opening but so sad at the loss of so many young brave men. I had the honour of taking Len Cox from the Glorious Gloucesters who landed D-Day 2nd wave Gold Beach. Amazing experience but when Len would stop at a grave every so often and describe his friends, what they looked like, their personality and age that was hard to see as you could see Len return there back to D-Day and see the loss. Len Cox passed away 23.02.2021, hope he's having a good sing song and knees up with his friends again and wife Barbara. Rest in peace Len, a great man.

Very clean quiet cemetery.

Lest we forget.

Very impressive and beautiful war cemetery. The portraying of the insignia of the regiments the fallen served in on the stones really adds a personalised aspect. It is also fascinating how there's multiple and some unusual nationalities buried here. Although, it was mentioned there were some 400 Germans buried at this cemetery but I was not able to find any of their graves.
