Having a timeout residency to conduct some channel drawing from site connecting it’s an land art space fieldwork and action research plan,staying here is sublime.

A magical place that naturally inspires. You can experience the fullness of a day with a 360 view of the sky - sunrise and sunset. Incredible walks, extraordinary spaces and studios, roaring rolling hills, unique untethered landscapes. Joya’s creators are genuinely the most kind-hearted people I’ve met - supporting creativity, community, sustainability, dreams and growth. A very special space on this planet.

I went to the 2 week residency this summer. The website was not clear at all about the food situation which made it sound like cooked meals are provided, rather than a few staples items given for residents to cook their own meals separate from 2 provided dinners a week. The location is beautiful and meeting the other artists was the highlight of the residency. However, I had many unfortunate interactions with the host. There were unsavoury jokes made at the expense of marginalized communities on several occasions, referencing past residences only by their nationalities, really not making me feel welcome to ask questions or for support (on the few occasions that I did being brushed off). I’m sure at one point this was a wonderful residency, but that wasn’t the experience during my stay. I would not recommend it especially to other artists of colour.

Esta residencia está mal informada y su postulación es confusa. Fui descartado por el hecho de ser sudamericano ya que creen, erróneamente, que por Covid-19 no puedo asistir. Desde mi país es posible viajar a España (Latam e Iberia) y además, la residencia se llevaría a cabo en 4 meses más.

Creo que sería más honesto y directo si en la plataforma de postulación dijeran que para los meses que se ofrecen (octubre a diciembre 2020) los cupos están abiertos solamente a ciudadanos de la Comunidad Europea. Información errónea respecto a otras zonas del planeta pero al menos sería más claro. Así, no perdemos el tiempo preparando postulaciones y hablamos con la verdad.

This residence is misinformed and its application is confusing. I was discarded for being South American as they mistakenly believe that because of Covid-19 I cannot attend. From my country it is possible to travel to Spain (via Latam and Iberia) and in addition, the residency would take place in 4 more months.

I think it would be more honest and direct if the application platform said that for the months offered (October to December 2020) the spaces are only open to citizens of the European Community. Misinformation regarding other areas of the planet but at least it would be clearer. Thus, we do not waste time preparing applications and we speak with the truth.
