We enjoyed our visit to the tunnels. A fascinating historical tour that details what various persons went through during the wars and how the persons hid underground. Make sure you book tickets in advance though we managed to get tickets on the day within a few minutes of the start of the tour. Add this to your list when visiting Almeria.

Fascinating glimpse into the hardships faced by anti-Franco communities during the civil war. There is a short film with English sub-titles that plays before the tour with first-hand accounts of the bombardments from Almería residents.

If your in Almería town definately check out this very interesting historic tour. We had a great guide, some good stories and interesting facts. I would definately this 1.5 hour tour that covers about 1km of tunes.

Great place to visit. Easy to park nearby in underground parking. Cheap entrance at €3 and there is a lift for people who can't do the stairs. About one hour tour in Spanish.

Enjoyed a guided tour more than I expected. Very interesting and our guide was foreign so no politics mixed in just historical facts. Interesting some of the rules were not to talk politics since this was a refuge for both sides.
When you arrive there are tour guides that will fit you into their next tour . Normally sold out otherwise.

Quite the unique experience. Yes, the tour is in Spanish (there are some English information boards and subtitles) but that’s fine... it’s still something you’ll not experience anywhere else!

A trip 90m below the city... through remarkable tunnels that still have the ambience of safety and fear combined. And don’t expect to end up where you started!

€3 currently, pre-booked tours. Worth every cent!!

Very different to you normally see as a tourist, not much English spoken though, which is a shame..up to 30,000 people hid in this 2 kilometres of underground air raid shelters, it was attached to the market, and could store foodstuffs, there was also a small hospital and a school....there is a lift / elevator, both ways ( up and down) but you will need to ask! 2019 it cost 2 euros....

A very moving and insightful experience. Try to gain some understanding of the horrors the people of Almería endured for their political persuasions.

Completely recommend it, it's impressive as well as interesting, they tell you the story behind and how events evolved, something worth to do while in Almería.

I went here solo, it was booked out, the lady realised i had used my google maps to find it and i was also alone, so she told me come back for the last viewing. This was very kind of her, as i was leaving the next day,. When you go, you watch an interesting video clip for 10/15 mins in spanish but has English subtitles, which was very interesting. However when you actually visit the shelters, everything is in Spanish & the tour guide talks a lot & fast, so i definitely felt i missed out. They should definitely have some information printed in various languages, even to purchase at an extra cost, as they just charge €3 to enter, which is very cheap.
The shelters were kept in great condition & you could even see the medical wing.
Definitely worth a visit if you speak /understand Spanish. You cant get out till the tour is finished, i think it lasted about 45mins.

Very interesting. Insight into recent history. On entering, the video had English subtitles. It was explained that the guided tour was in Spanish only though the guide did add little pieces of English when possible. You could travel around Almeria city and never know this is underneath you!

Very atmospheric and unique. €3 booked online in advance, I was able to book mine the day before. The steps down, and then eventually back up, are fairly steep. There is a 5 min video at the beginning which has English subtitles and then some of the signs have English translation. The guide only gives the tour in Spanish he will nswer questions in English, although you'll miss out on a lot I think €3 is not a lot to pay. They have a few underground chambers arranged how they might have been at the time. Overall it is very interesting. You ascend from the tunnels about 1/4 mile from where you start.

An important part of recent Spanish history. A fascinating insight into life in a provincial town during the Spanish Civil War. Almería resisted Franco's and Hitler's bombardments until a couple of days before the end of the war. During the visit you will walk through nearly a kilometre of the 4.5km of tunnels built to protect the population from attack.

It was very interesting to see how the shelters we're used all those years ago.
Most interesting for me was the little hospital inside of it. That there was health care in those difficult moments.
