Bodegas Valentín Pascual

José gave my friend and I a really nice in depth tour of his winery yesterday.
Having toured a number of wineries in La Rioja, this visit really stood out. Not only was it the only bodega that still keeps to traditional production techniques but the tour also felt a lot more personal than the ones I'd done previously.
José was a fantastic and very friendly guide. His deep knowledge of, and genuine passion for, his products was clear to see.
If you are looking for a fantastic tasting tour of an authentic bodega in La Rioja I hands down recommend paying Bodegas Valentin Pascual a visit!

An amazing journey back 100 years into the original way in which local wine was made. Oddly enough, their wine is still made the same way and using much of the same equipment and processing facilities from those years. They are the last winery in Spain still pressing grapes from their own plots with their feet, at their XV century cave.

Jose, the winemaker and son of the owner, Valentín Pascual, was our host for the tour and tasting. We coordinated the visit through email and he was willing to open on Sunday for our visit.

Our visit began with Jose opening a stone door in the floor to dip a glass into one of the century old vats of between 7,000 and 10,000 liters of capacity vats which reside under the foundation of the street-level floor. Remarkably, it was the most recent vintage and it was a hugely fruit forward, carbonic maceration wine.

This winery produces under the streets around the main plaza in town. A living museum of totally artisan wine production. Jose's grandfather, Don José María Pascual, the third generation of the family, installed a bottling machine that is still being used.

They produce one red wine, Valentín Pascual. Tempranillo and Grenache grape selected from their own vineyards with an average of 50 years. Cherry red color with purple hues. Nose highlights aromas of black fruit and flowers, with light notes of citrus. In the mouth it is tasty and smooth and well balanced, with a good body and a long finish. Aged 5 months in the vats before bottling.

Much of their production is made into Vermouth at a local processing facility where the alcohol content gets much higher.

This was the most interesting tour of a wine facility during our 3 week, 25 winery journey around La Rioja. Just 20 minutes outside of Logroño, La Rioja,, it is a MUST SEE for any visitor.

Insightful, historical, and unique. One of the last wineries in the town to use the traditional methodologies. Definitely visit.

Wir haben mit einer Gruppe Weinliebhaber die kleine aber sehr feine Bodega von Jose Maria und seinem Vater besucht. Nachdem wir alles besichtigt haben und viel in Erfahrung über die Geschichte der Bodega und die Herstellung des Weines brachten, durften wir einige wunderbare Weine und auch den wohlmundenden Wermut verkosten. Dieser Ort war ein wahres Higlight auf unserer Reise durch die Rioja!

Es una bodega preciosa debido a su originalidad. Originalidad referida a qué es la única en toda la Rioja que mantiene la tradición de hacer vino como se ha hecho toda la vida.
El prensado, el pisado de las uvas, el calado... Todo tradicional. Además en la visita te dan a catar tres tipos de sus vinos.
Los dueños de la bodega son los que te atienden y te hacen la visita y son majísimos, un encanto.

Impresionante bodega familiar en la que se hace vino, vermut y mistela de forma artesanal. Recorres la ciudad de Cenicero por debajo, por las cuevas donde están las barricas. Una parada recomendada para aquellos que visiten La Rioja. Muchas gracias José María por tu entusiasmo y la inmejorable visita guiada que nos has hecho. Por favor no os perdáis de probar ese mistela delicioso.

El concepto de tradicional y manual adquiere todo su sentido. El fin de semana pasado estuve con unos amigos, José nos atendió fenomenal y pudimos ver paso por paso como se realizaba todo su vino. Todo manual, cómo antes. He estado en muchas bodegas, casi todas más grandes, pero aquí se aprende de verdad, se nota cuando las cosas se hacen con gusto y cariño. Para culminar probamos el vino y sus vermouth, no sabría con que quedarme, fue perfecto.

Bodega tradicional riojana, con siglos de antigüedad, una para obligaría si te gusta la cultura del vino. Trato inmejorable, no quieres que se acabe la visita, Valentín no deja de regalarte sabiduría y vivencias de su vida entorno al vino! FANTASTICO!!!! La bodega sus vinos y sus vermuts ESPECTACULARES! Si vuelvo a La Rioja volveré a visitarte, a ti y a tus bodega!!! Espero que siga la tradición familiar.

Bodega tradicional, con unos vermuts y un vino espectacular. Una visita guiada increíble, parada obligatoria para todo aquel que disfrute con el mundo del vino. Poca gente hace el vino como se hace aquí, con una forma de trabajo artesanal y un trato excepcional.

Bodega artesanal de las que quedan poquísimas. Calados impresionantes y atención fenomenal. Ha sido todo un lujo contar con Valentin para todas las explicaciones que pedíamos. Buen vino, buen vermut y buena mistela

Estuve con mi mujer haciendo la visita con Valentín, el propietario de la bodega. Su forma de ser y de explciar las cosas hizo que las dos horas que estuvimos con él pasaran volando. Lo recomiendo plenamente.

Una visita excelente para ver una bodega tradicional y entender mucho mejor la elaboración del vino. Trato excelente. Imprescindible en una visita a la zona.

De lo más auténtico y natural. Siglos de experiencia que se pueden saborear de las manos de José Maria quien le pone tanta dedicación y cariño. Gracias por aguantarnos.
