So amazing and so grandiose. There are no words that can describe the beauty of these ruins, which as a matter of fact are probably one of the best work the ancient Egyptians did in their time. Divided into two secrions, to the left and right, there are columns that are open "flower" at the top, which means that the roof was made out of wood, and there were "windows" sort of like, made of stone slabs and there were 365 holes so that Amon Ra would light the temple 365 days throughout the year. On the other side, there are columns that are closed which means that this part of the temple was roofed with stone, and the "closed top of the columns" allowed this to stay in its place for a long time. There is a work that is being done currently, and the Egyptians are trying to restore, not paint the old column paintings.

The Hypostyle Hall is one of the landmarks of the Karnak Temple Complex. It is awesome in it's grandeur! It was supposed to have been planned by Pharaoh Ramses1 and constructed by Seti1 and Ramses2.
It is gigantic and there are 134 pillars, each carved in intricate detail. The paintings on the inner walls were built for the priests and members of the Royal Family and have religious significance. While the outer walls are adorned with scenes of battle, where the Pharaoh is depicted as being powerful and strong as he wins over his enemies.
The pillars are in the shape of papyrus, as the ancient Egyptians believed that they were associated with the beginning of Life itself.
During the annual flooding of the Nile, this Hall would get filled with water, we can still see the marks made by water, on them. Being in the open has naturally affected the pillars. The ravages of water, wind and desert sand is evident here. The pillars would have been painted in vivid colors, obviously not much of this remains, though you will catch a glimpse of it in the ceiling where the pillars form arches.
It is really hot in Karnak, under the Sun, so please carry water, wear lots of sunscreen and a hat is a must. Avoid bringing children with you. We saw a number of families with children hiding in the shade of trees. Everyone was miserable, parents and children!
The washrooms are in the entrance complex and are reasonably clean. You will find water and other cold beverages in small kiosks out there as well.

A calling card of the Karnak temple) Every column looks like a work of art. They inscribed with hieroglyphs and talked a story about pharaohs.

The Hypostyle Hall in the Temple of Karnak is an awesome piece of monumental architecture. Built in the 19th Dynasty under the auspices of Seti I and Ramses II, the 134 columns are 33 feet in circumference and rise 68 feet; the center row columns are about 10 feet taller. They once held up a roof, long since destroyed.
The sandstone columns are covered with hieroglyphs praising the pharaos and the chief God of this site, Amon-Re, and you can also see some interesting depictions of Min, the God of fertility.

There is a lot of heat in Karnak due to the Sun, so be prepared by carrying water, wearing sunscreen, and wearing a hat. It is not a good idea to bring children with you. A number of families with children hid in the shade of trees. It was miserable for everyone, parents and children alike!
The washrooms are located in the entrance complex and are reasonably clean. Small kiosks also sell water and other cold beverages.
This temple is perhaps the most majestic and fantastic among all the temples in Karnak. It is amazing how large the columns are and how complex the design is. Such a structure could not be constructed without the use of complex technical devices, In ancient times as well.

Perhaps the most majestic and fantastic construction of all the temples in Karnak. The size of the columns and the complexity of the design are simply amazing. It is impossible to imagine how such a structure could be built without the use of complex technical devices. Even in ancient times...

The Hypostyle Hall I is situated between the Second and Third Pylons and measures 103 meters in width by 53 meters in length.
Its 134 columns imitate the primeval papyrus marsh. The main nave is flanked by two rows of six open-bud papyrus-capital columns and was lit by clerestory windows on either side.
The other 122 smaller closed-bud columns support the lateral naves which were lit through openings in the ceil-ing.
The Hypostyle Hall is described in the texts inscribed in the architraves as a "temple of millions of years", i.e. a place where the royal cult, in association with the cult of Amun, was celebrated.
The colored decoration on the inside portrays the ceremonies carried out here, such as the sacred barque festival or the daily religious rituals, whereas the decoration on the outside walls portrays the military victories of Seti I on the north side and Ramesses II on the south side.

The most beautiful and impressive part of the Karnak complex consists of 134 columns an 2 different shapes with beautiful decorations and colors especially in the top of the columns and the rooftop. Really beautiful and the film of James Bond ( The spy who loved me ) was filmed in this court many years ago

Hypostyle Hall its amazing, very big and full of stories in the columns and in the walls. The part built by Ramsses, as all made by him, had hyerogliphs with big sizes and the particular Ramsses style, his cartouche everywhere, with this Pharaoh you can see each detail of his life, and his rutine and privacy. He was really amazing and unique.

Impressive. A hall that was built for one purpose only: that the visitor felt humble and even void. This was a place of and for the gods.

What can one say: unbelievable how could this have been done more than 3500 years ago. All our artefacts seem almost ridiculous in comparison.

Not only amazing or fascinating it's also the biggest worship in the world.
