According to the information board … “Troldbykærling” is a monolith - an oblong, upright stone without inscription, erected around the late bronze age or early iron age (1000 BC – AD 0), possibly marking a place where remains of cremations have been buried. Monoliths are rare in Denmark, outside the island of Bornholm.

The legend about “Troldbykærling” ... it is told that trolls were angry with the construction of Hyllinge church and used the nights to destroy what had been built during the day. One day, a trold hag did not get away before the sun’s rays touched her, and she turned into the monolith.
