I was apprehensive after reading the reviews here, but I had an end to end wonderful experience. I had booked the trip using Hotwire and it was the cheapest price out of the many agencies. I booked using my US VISA credit card which covers car rental insurance. You need to travel to Terminal 2 to the Hertz desk to find the Thrifty counter.

The line was short (I arrived on a Monday at around 10am), and the attendant was warm and professional - we had a good chat. They did not push any additional charge for insurance, and honoured the rate from my original booking without question - I did not have any of the issues other people have had in these comments. In fact it was end to end one of the most pleasant and professional rental experiences I have had.

I've booked my car via Ryanair and didn't get dissappointed. My flight was late so I arrived 2 minutes after midnight at their desk however thry were kind not to book me a fee for late pick up. Insurance was via Ryanair / Axa, no issues. Also car was good, no problems on return. Will book again.

Requested and paid for a child seat. It wasn't in the car when we picked it up. We had to go at the point you drop off the car, in order to take the child seat.

Their service was ok. I reserved and paid for a automatic but at counter told me they have given out all automatics. Was not happy..

Booked a car (midsize wagon) through Expedia at a reasonable cost of C$347.13 (~224 Euro) for a period of 14 days. When I got to Frankfurt late on April 09, 2019 everything went well until the Hertz rental agent (they handle Thrifty @ FRA) informed me that I must purchase the Thrifty insurance at an extra cost of 470 euros. Knowing that other people had issues with what equates to a scam I brought a letter from my credit card company stating that I am covered for the Collision Damage Waiver. That letter was not accepted and I was told in no uncertain terms that if I do not agree to buy the extra insurance I will not get a car. At that time it was around 10:30 pm and I did not have a car. I went to all the other car rental agencies in the airport to see if they had anything reasonable available. I ended up booking at Hertz on line through Expedia at a slightly higher cost but still reasonable. I called Thrifty to cancel my original booking. So it turned out ok for me after a tense hour, but I can see people getting gouged by this unethical scheme.

Thrifty and Expedia need to clearly spell out the insurance rules (instead of saying that additional insurance "may" be required) and how much it would be, so people do not get entrapped in this cash grab.

I did not pick up my rental, but rather ended up paying more than triple for a rental from another company (than Thrifty).
It was a terrible experience concerning customer service!
First, the employee didn't accept my insurance. She didn't care to listen and then offered me a vehicle at more than double the price (from the original reservation).
Then she said she didn't have an automatic transmission vehicle and I would have to wait for one to come in, even though I reserved one. I observed multiple people ahead of me in line (who did not have one reserved!), getting one. Which meant they gave my reservation away.
She was inflexible and did not even offer suggestions to solve the issue.
I decided to rent elsewhere.
Safe yourself the trouble!

Manager was rude and unreasonable. Would not accept a letter from Visa guaranteeing insurance coverage.

The company would be forced to listen if 50 to 100 customers a day reserved a car every day and then fail to show up.

They charged us for an insurance we didn't ask for!! They didn't question us if we wanted it and we just realized that when we returned our car. Of course we signed but we trust we were signing just the amount we paid when we reserved our car on the website. They clearly cheated us and instead of paying 55€ we paid 210€!!
Be aware of that and if you have the chance, choose another one!
Totally a bad experience.

We had landed after a long intercontinental flight, were overtired and just wanted to pick up our car to drive to our hotel. Only Thrifty was nowhere to be found. After one hour of going back and forth we finally found them in terminal 2, instead of terminal 1 as indicated in our booking confirmation and in Google Maps. When I told the manager that this was not a perfect customer experience, he reacted very rudely, saying this was not his problem. I then asked him if this was his professional way of dealing with complaints and he eventually got really angry. I was not in a mood to argue with him any further so I kept quiet after that... At least we got a decent and clean car. But Thrifty is not an experience which I would recommend to anyone!

I booked a car for my family at Thrifty Frankfurt Airport 3 months in advance of our trip starting August 13th 2018, to guarantee a decent price. Thrifty came up as the cheapest option out of the search engine we used. When you arrive at the car rental desk at Terminal 1 or 2 in Frankfurt, the joint Thrifty and Dollar's desk (both owned by Hertz) is by far the longest waiting line. After 45mns of wait at a desk served by two overwhelmed agents, you learn that both Thrifty and Dollar are the only two brands in the whole terminal imposing in Germany to take car insurance ("special terms and policy" undisclosed at time of booking) even if you have a solid primary insurance provided by your credit card. In essence, our $390 rental becomes an $850 bill. You stand there in line with your family waiting after a 10-hour trip to make a decision under pressure at the counter. Their strategy is clear: appear at the top of search engines as the cheapest option and then double or triple the bill at the last minute, catching customers off-guard by offering their captive insurance to customers. This is borderline fraud and should be prohibited. Instead of giving up to their unscrupulous marketing tactics, we went to the next counter and booked with Enterprise paying $250 more than we had budgeted but still much less than with Thrifty which we cancelled as a matter of principle. I highly recommend to boycott them, such that they modify these poor practices.

Deceptive Practices at Thrifty Rental Car

BE VERY CAREFUL renting a car from Thrifty in Germany. I booked a car through Kayak for a set price. At pick up, I was told by Thrifty I was REQUIRED to purchase their insurance even though I am covered by my credit card and wanted to decline the Thrifty insurance. This is not a requirement at other rental car companies in Germany. I have rented 3 cars from Enterprise, Alamo and Europcar in Germany and no such requirement. If you read the fine print on the Thrifty website it is stated you must have their insurance but it's not on the document from at Kayak. I will NEVER rent from Thrifty ever again.

Worse rental car experience I've ever had. Just like others have stated, forced me to purchase their insurance, even though I purchased one on Expedia. Also, if using a credit card, they will put a hold of double what the rental charge is, which isn't stated on the agreement. DO NOT RENT FROM DOLLAR or THRIFTY!

DOLLAR AND THRIFTY BEWARE, STAY AWAY!!!! INSURANCE FRAUD!!!

Especially AMERICAN renters. DO NOT RENT with either one of these here.

There are MANY complaints about this INSURANCE FRAUD. They charged us DOUBLE for basic insurance even though we could provide proof of insurance. They do this often and you are stuck paying over double what you reserved. **This will not appear on your reservation contract** STAY AWAY!!!

Insurance scam! All credit cards cover rental card insurance but these clowns tell you last minute that its required to purchase from them. Not a lot of options last minute with schedule to keep. Beware!

Avoid this company and do not return the car after hours. They will charge you want they want.
