Great quality and quantity of dishes (even though everything is fried :p).
Many food and drink options at reasonable prices.
Some of the staff speak English so it's a great spot for non Czech speakers too.

Quick on the service, great food, the service was very warm even though I don't speak Czech (which has been an issue in similar restaurants).
I will be back for sure.

You get really generous amount of food for a lunch here and basically at any time. Usually it's delicious and at the fair price. Plus you can eat as much soup as you want. Bon appetit

Very tasty food and giant portions! :) Nice stuff (but they don’t talk in English), polite and smiling (rare from Czech stuff). It was pleasant to have a dinner here.

There are several reasons why this place deserves 5 stars. Fast and friendly service. Big portions of food. Daily menu served all day. Fantastic beer. Mostly Czech homemade food is served here that will not make you leave hungry. The only downside is that the place is small and very busy so keep that in mind. They do not take reservations. Cash and card payments available. Don't miss out!

One of the best places I have visited in Czechia. You, definitely, will be satisfied by service and quality. They have big portions so be careful if you can consume it, if not: you can ask to pack out your food.

Great and inexpensive place. Portions ale absolutely massive and filling, also they've got probably the best coleslav I ate ever. If it's not too hot then you need to eat inside since this place has got awesome atmosphere – one of the walls is dedicated to portraits of Austro–Hungarian emperors (I've recognised Franz Joseph and Charles I, this might explain the name "U Karla"). Overall this place has this retro-ish and authentic vibe, when you eat there you truly feel like eating in Czechia. Menu could use an English version though.

It is a good place to visit for a meal. I like the wooden furniture. Food was delicious, if you order a meal, soup is for free. And the portions are really big! Here you can taste different kinds of beer from a local brewery. Service was fast and friendly.

Very friendly staff, nice traditional pub-restaurant surroundings (though slightly too food oriented if you want to go for a drink). The food is presented plainly but is so fresh and piping hot. Finally I must make mention of the price as it was superb value, most dishes were between 80-130kc and the 11 degrees beer was 27kc. It is popular, atmospheric and I will come back next time I am in Brno!

I am ordering from this pub/restaurant regularly last few weeks and I am more than satisfied. Food is great for a good price. I had some small issues with delivering wrong meal, but everything was solved and I had a new meal in 20 minutes. The next day I got some extra so I cant say anything bad about their service. I definitely recommend.

Really great place to get lunch. Food was always good and they cook until quite late and even have lunch menu during weekends. Beer is also good but even better is drafted cider.
Edit: They no longer gave drafted cider :/

The best and the greatest pub in Brno! The meals are tasty, cheap and portions are huge. Drinks and shots are also really REALLY cheap, compared to today's market and you can never go wrong with Policka beer, which is also served here. What really makes Karel the jewel everybody's talking about is the crew. They are swift, funny, talkative and friendly in general. I have never ever in my life seen a team that's working so well together. Kudos guys!

They have huge plates for incomprehensibly low prices. Usually little vegetarian options, none for lunch, but in their regular offer there are some vegetarian meals and they tend to be huge. Love it!

Good, cozy place of old czech type. Good, tasty and not overpriced food, fresh beer and lovely old Austrian decorations.

Love this place! Reservation comes in handy since it is usually packed with people, not only in summer. Solid traditional place with Austrio-Hungarian atmosphere.
