This place is incredible. It is extremely inexpensive and for just a few dollars, you can have a guided tour from an English-speaking guide. It's fascinated to hear how this defensive fort was turned into a prison and see the conditions that the prisoners lived in. My first photo with the holes in the wall is from where they performed executions by firing squad! So shocking.

One of my favourite places in Cuba. If you have been here before you need to return as they have changed so many things. The guided tour is different and they have added hundreds of english and spanish signs. Now it is a real museum and this place finally got the respect it deserves. Come check it out this place will blow your mind! Great photo opp! Even if you don't like history come anyways... you won't regret it.

I am from Matanzas, and I remember when Fidel started the rehab. I and my paisanos were more than grateful for this service.
Cubanos like myself have always supported El Commandante from way back in the 60's when he signed bills for socialized medicine and socialized education. Its funny that before Fidel, there was nothing but the mafia.
This is a museum for the African descendants who were ripped from our continent ,(Africa) by the Portuguese and brought to Cuba and enslaved

This is not about the war that put Fidel in power. This is about our history as Afro Cubans and how we got to Cuba and Fidels recognition of our struggle.
For those who want to get info on the 1959 war and other issues go to the net.
