I loved it here - away from the majority of tourists and lots of wildlife. To see it you definitely need to take a boat. I organised one at the bridge very easily - I was a couple of hours early and they fed me some fresh fruit and as much coffee as I could drink. There were some cayman directly in front of the restaurant which kept me busy.

Fantastic wildlife, very close as boat drifted up and down stream. Definitely worth visiting. The drive there is tiring (so called Costa Rica massage 🤣😖) but the place is incredibly rewarding. We saw at least 23 species of bird and I suspect a lot more, plus caymans, crocodiles, lizards, iguanas, monkeys (at a distance), turtles

Amazing place to see lots of birds and reptiles. You must have a guide, as without one you really wouldn't see much. I never knew that huge iguanas spent most of their time at the very top of trees, its amazing to see.
I recommend you booking a tour for 10am, most suggest 7am, but that totally unnecessary.
Also, I recommend if driving use the road from number 4, not 35. Road 35 has much more potholes and large rocks.

We had a wonderful 2 hour boat tour seeing all kinds of wildlife. Our guide was amazing at spotting things and ta,ing us in for a closer look. Although the day was hot, being in a covered boat on the river was delightful. Recommended

Nice boat tour. We got to see Spider Monkeys, Congos, lots of birds, a caiman and they even let us get off the boat and we went searching for a beautiful orange howling monkey!
Gustavo and our captain (forgot his name) where very knowledgeable and really friendly!
We finished with a nice lunch!

Great fishing spot, great variety of birds🦩🦜🐦🦢🦆🦅🐓, boat rides are very nice and relaxing, I saw many crocs,🦎🐊🐢 and a lot of different types of fish, don't forget to bring mosquito repellent!🦟🦟🦟

Superb reserve in the north of Costa Rica. Monkeys, caimans, iguanas, turtles... and an endless list of birds. The reserve has to be visited by boat, after paying the entrance fee. You can arrange the boat trip in the village dock. I rented a boat with Gerardo, a local with experience that knows very well the area. He knows where to move to find the different animals and will take time to stop and show you anything along the tour. If you are lucky, you could even spot jaguar...

Amazing reserve to see lots of animals .. much less crowed than Tortuguero and a lot more animals (dozens of caimans , crocs , birds of all kind .. turtles .. iguanas )

Hidden gem in Costa Rica. So much wildlife and hardly any tourists. The whole village was super friendly.
Would highly recommend Kingfisher Lodge for stay and tour and Luna Magica for food.

Bring a good camera! Your mobile phone camera is ok but if you want good memories of all the animals you'll see, a good camera will serve you very well. While not a safari of "lions and tigers and bears, oh my" you will find the equivalent here. In a word: awesome.

Beautiful wildlife preserve near the border of Nicaragua in northern Costa Rica. Took a casual day trip boating the Rio Frio river and saw so many different animals it's too long to list! There are diners / restaurants along the river but bring some extra water for yourself.

Amazing journey to enjoy wildlife, this is a sanctuary only 1:45 away from la Fortuna, and 3 hour ride on a motor boat well equipped to enjoy !!

Perfect place to see caimens and birds. When you arrive, it is very easy to find a guide for a boat tour.

Santuario natural, ideal para la observación de aves como: el Jabiru, Agami Heron, Green and Rufous Kingfisher, Black Collared Hawk, Sungrebe, Spot Breasted Wren, Yellow breasted Crake, Nicaraguan Grackle, Lesser Yellow headed vulture.

A lovely location with a gentle to down the river. We managed to see quite a few monkeys and birds along the way with our guide able to provide lots of useful information as well.

Oh my gosh, this place took my breath away and allowed me to see a sloth which was a dream come true. Our guide Jorge was simply amazing, funny and so knowledgeable.....i reccomend this for anyone coming to Costa Rica.

Took a boat tour up the Rio Frio. The captain and our Collette tour director were great looking for wildlife and identifying birds, animals and reptiles. We could move about the boat and go up on the bow for great pictures. Since we were unable to go into the Cloud forest due to TS Nate and its damage, this was the highlight of our Costa Rican trip.
