Amazing accommodation. I spent Christmas with Tim and the family, a great place to spend a few days or longer. Clean, reliable, and great service. I went paragliding, rented one of the many motorcycles and went mountain biking. 10/10 would do again. Great community with tons of information from other travelers sharing advice and recommendations if you’re headed north south or staying for a while.

Exceeded expectations! Had heard good things but that sets a high bar which can be risky... However all communication with Tim prior to our arrival was promptly responded to with helpful advice and upon arrival... Our room was perfect and the compound proved absolutely an amazing spot for weary travellers to recover. We joined the family style breakfasts and lunches and loved the variety of scratch cooked options - wonderful flavours and excellent value. Stayed a day longer than planned and most others seem to do the same! A great place run by great people. We hope to return one day!

I stopped at Donkey Sunrise for a couple days to recharge. Ended up staying 3 weeks! Plus, I plan to go back for an extended stay. Tim and Isa don’t just open their door, they open their hearts. One truly becomes part of their Donkey Sunrise family. They have wonderful places to tent camp and fairly priced clean rooms. The hostal is safe and gated so one can leave stuff there while enjoying the world class riding opportunities that abound in that area. They serve breakfast and lunch that are of a varied menus from all over South America, beautifully prepared and delicious. Often using fruits and vegetables picked from their own garden. Other travelers come and go to add stories and laughter. It is a home away from home.

I came for one night and had to stay for three, wish I could stay longer. Great place, great people! Clean, very pretty grounds, fantastic food, relaxing, wonderful rooms and camping area. Fantastic moto riding in the area, great place to recharge and hang out with cool travelers. The nearby town has all kinds of shopping and restraunts. 10/10

During my travels I  would trade information with other touring . motorcyclists who were going north while I was heading south to tour South America.

Often these same motorcyclists repeated the same  you must stay recommendation about Donkey Sunrise in Colombia.

Now here, I can attest that the recommendations were spot on. This is an amazing place to recharge your mental and physical batteries.

Sharing touring motorcycle experiences with other motorcyclists while festing on some of the best local foods prepared in their kitchen and served family style is worth the visit alone.

Sleeping choices range from clean private rooms to tent space.

A bonus is the large informal gathering space filled with tables and futons allowing you to read a book or catch up with your social media. Fruit trees dot the grounds, produce often is fresh from their garden.

So often someone will check in for the night and still be here three days later.

It's day four for me lol

Beutiful place to check-in if you’re riding through Colombia as a motor cyclist. Its run by a family, and Tim and Isa make you feel very welcome.

You can take breathtaking tours in the mountain, and Tim is always there to help you plan your adventures. There are serious off-roud routes, on road routes, and a vibrant town closeby.
There’s food served in the morning and afternoon and you can go paragliding via Tim.

I stayed in the dorm for $50.000 a night, there’s also private rooms and a campsite. Definitely pay a visit to this place on your trip!

Paradise full of fruit trees and perfect place to chill out for a couple of days. Tim and his team will try to make your stay unforgettable. They also offer great off-road bike adventures in the surroundings. The meals are delicious, try the donkey punch.

A great place to relax for motorbike overlanders like myself. Make your way there if you want to park your bike for a few days, relax, recharge and chill.

You can pitch your tent between palm trees on the spacious camp ground or treat yourself to a bed in a shared room or even a private room.
It's family run and the owners are absolutely lovely. Tim is a motorbike traveller himself and knows how to accommodate fellow riders.

All of the family look after you and are there if you need anything. There is a secure and covered parking and plenty of space to work on your bike if you need to. You can service it and if you need him to, Tim even helps you organising spare parts as he has great contacts in Pereira. There was a community breakfast provided which made a great start of the day and helped to create a really positive vibe.

If you need, there are motorbikes (Suzuki DR 650 and Honda XRE 300 for rent) and you can go exploring the backyard of Donkey Sunrise. If you want, ask Tim (the owner) for inside tips and advice or even a guided tour to experience the tranquillity of the mountains around La Union.

Great place with great people and 100% recommended!

If you're a motorbiker this is the perfect place to come to. The rooms are nice and there is a beautiful garden with many fruit trees. Also the owner and his family are super friendly and helpful. And you can get the best lunch in Colombia here.

The place to be if you are an overlander! Especially when you are a biker!
Best hospitality found in Colombia. You immediately feel at home and welcomed by the whole family.
Great place to meet other travelers to do nice day tours with in the beautiful area around.
The food they serve here is amazing, especially after traveling for a longer trip. Something else then Rice, beans and boring arepas because here the arepas are amazing!
Definitely can recommend this place 100%

Green space with lots of shade, many space to relax and a nice dining area. All well maintained. They do “family lunch” every day. Isa and her dad cook amazing! We had Surinam, Venezuelan and Indian, some quite unique here in Colombia. Highly recommended.

Amazing overlander hub with a hostel, beautiful garden for camping and delicious cooked meals available. The area is great for exploring on a motorbike and the local town is cool too.

This is such a great place! It has a very relaxed vibe, nice chill-out area and when the sun gets too hot during the day you can cool off in the pool. The food was really good here too. The owners, Jorge and Tim, are really cool guys and very knowladgeable about all the off-road you can do in the area. We had just had a few days of off-road riding ourselves so we didn't explore but all the other guests there were super enthusiastic about the rides. We used Donkey Sunrise as a place to relax after some intense days on the road and the place is perfect for that too. Hang out, chat, read a book, swim, it was just what we needed. We will definitely be coming back and rent some of their smaller bikes to explore the trails!

We are on a long trip with our bicycles and we were welcomed warmly by the owners Jorge and Tim and everyone else at the Donkeys! There were many travelers on awesome adventures and we felt at home soon after arriving. It is possible to camp and also cook yourself if you have a stove. But the food at Donkey Sunrise is so good that we hardly used our stove :) There's awesome company if you feel like socialising but also more than enough space to read a book in silence and enjoy the calm. If you feel like meeting fun loving souls and adventurers, eat that food you have been missing on a long trip, enjoy campfires and chill out, please treat yourself to an awesome stay at the Donkeys and say hi to everyone from us!

GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY, BEST MOTORCYCLE EXPERIENCE SO FAR!!

First of all I’d like to say that if you are looking for a hostel which combines the best motor tours in the area with a really chill vibe as soon as you get home, THIS IS THE ONE!!

Both owners, Tim and Jorge started this hostel to give their guests the best motor experience possible and in my opinion they definitely succeeded! I don’t own motorcycle myself however they had a variety of motorcycles available for rent (beginner or expert), all in great condition.

They both knew the area very well. It was very easy to plan a tour (one-day or multiple). Just tell them how many days and how heavy you want your ride to be. They made a perfect itinerary based on my wishes. Off-roading, beautiful nature and highways with the best long corners in the world.

The hostel itself was perfect to start from or return to after a great tour. It is located in a beautiful valley (mostly dry area) and next to a small Colombian town, La Union, which really gave me the ‘off the beaten path’ feeling. There is a big swimming pool to dive into after a long drive and around the property there are several hammocks to relax in. There is a restaurant which serves great meals (both Colombian and Western). If you don’t want to eat at the hostel you can easily go in to town (3 min.) which has a variety of options.

I stayed in a dorm room which was located in a house on the property. Toilets and showers were cleaned on daily base by the lovely local staff. There are also private rooms or tents available up to your taste/budget.

It was really easy to reach the hostel. I took a plane, directly from Medellin city’s airport to Cartago (20 min from the hostel) with a small airline called San German express. However there are other bigger airports in Armenia and Pereira close by as well.

In conclusion I’d say this one the best hostel experiences so far. I really hope to get back one day, if only to see ‘granny’ the lovely dog again!

This is a lifetime experience. Feeling the warmth of the people of one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Tour it by motorbike, accompanied by Tim or Jorge, your hosts of Donky Sunrise, a one of a kind hostel with a hospitality mix of Columbia and the Netherlands. The kitchen is surprising with even a touch of the flavours of the far East. I’ll be back, guys! Thanks for offering us a little paradise!

My friend and I are on an 11 month motorcycle journey from New Mexico, U.S. down through Central and South America. We stayed at a place in Filandia called Steelhorse for loads of overlanders and motorcyclists. Everybody there encouraged us to go and stay at Donkey Sunrise. We came for New Year's Eve and stayed about 2 weeks. The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful. Tim is from Netherlands and is great at riding motorcycles and dancing salsa. Jorge is a wonderful Colombian guy who lived in Connecticut U.S. for years he has amazing stories of his life and past work. Everyday was a blast I would go out exploring off road trails and mountain roads with Tim. He showed us some incredible views and muddy challenging roads. They also have bicycles to rent which is good for the mountains here. There's a KTM motorcycle for rent as well as 2 Royal Enfield and another dirtbike. There's a really nice swimming pool I used everyday, amazing outdoor showers, a slackline, and hammocks under trees and flowers. I rarely left to get food in the nearby town La Union because the food at Donkey Sunrise was so good. We had chicken curry, a traditional Colombian soup dish, barbecue grilled veggies and shish kebabs, burgers with fries, good fresh veggies and fruit juice some used from plants on the property. Bonita the puppy was the highlight of the stay she was only 3 months old and loved to play. We had so much fun with all the workaway volunteers as well. Germans, Dutch, British, Australian, Venezuelan, Colombian...lots of different skills and abilities. Highly recommend this place for anyone especially overlanders and motorcyclists. We hung out hammocks and tarps for sleeping at night under a shady roof and flowers and had great sleeps.

We visited Tim at Donkey Sunrise in January ‘22. Even though they weren’t officially reopened yet, Tim’s hospitality is second to none. He opened the doors for us and showed us a great time. Thank you again Tim, and hopefully until next time!

Donkey Sunrise is a fantastic new hostel that is an especially good option for the adventurous crowd--motorcyclists, overlanders, paragliders, etc. There are various sleeping options from camping or provided tents with mosquito nets and power outlets to dorm rooms or private rooms. Owners Jorge and Tim are great guys who really make you feel at home. They are a wealth of information about the surrounding area, including activities as diverse as paragliding, off-road or on-road motorcycling (motos available for rent!), horseback riding, or just exploring the valley and the mountains. There are plenty of places to relax after your adventures, including a pool, hammocks, and cool shady areas. Dinner is available most evenings and is quite tasty! Highly recommended to anyone looking for a place to relax in the middle of a long trip or a home base for exploring the back roads of the Cordillera Occidental.
