Huntley-Beatty Preserve

We stopped by because we saw this nature walk listed in a brochure. I probably would not have visited, but the brochure mentioned a former swimming and fishing spot called "The Cut" that was part of the original quarry.
The path takes you from street level down into the quarry. Once you are into the quarry, there is no shade! So be prepared. Also, there is no designated path or signs pointing out anything.
We were able to locate the old swimming hole. It is called the cut as it is a very long and narrow trench left behind from the quarry. Most of it is shallow, but there are a few areas that I can see were used for swimming.
It is a nice walk. But without the "cut", nothing exceptional. I did enjoy walking around it and looking around. But without it, I would not have stopped by.
You return along the same path. There is no water or restrooms.
It is good to see these areas are protected, but at the same time is it sad to realize that the barren rocky pit you are walking in used to be a lush forest. All that is left is the rock that they didn't want.
