Quonley's Gifts & Grocery

The cute little trinkets caught my eye while I was passing by. I had the pleasure of meeting Julius, he was such a sweet older man with a gentle demeanour.
He told me about the history of the shop and how it has been around since the 40s!
I was visiting Victoria for the first time, and he definitely was the highlight of my trip.

I don't think the reviews about the lady who works here are very fair, she's always been kind to me when coming in and once when buying (admittedly quite a few) snacks she gave me some free cookies as a thank you. Quonley's is great and I've never felt unwelcome by any of the staff in the 15+ years I've shopped there.

A very nice little store! No comment on some of the other comments here specifically, but in no particular order I will say in my own experience:

The prices were perfectly reasonable for where you are. This is a small business, a convenience and souvenir store, a store located in a pedestrian- and tourist-heavy area, and a store that carries a lot of imported items. There is a walmart that sells walmart products at walmart prices an 8 minute drive away, and a dollar store that sells dollar store products at dollar store prices a 7 minute walk away. At no point was I held at gunpoint and told I absolutely *had* to buy a thing in the store.

I took a few laps of the store while contemplating what I wanted to drink. I was never given any sign that I was unwanted or a pest. At all times I moved carefully and politely around other people with full awareness of the small space I was in.

When I checked out it was efficient and polite. I do not demand or expect a performance of a fake smile and a fake "we're all best friends together" from employees. She checked me out, she took the initiative to check if I knew how to open the Japanese soda I'd purchased, and I was done and out the door again. A perfect interaction that required no more nor less.

Great convenience store! Staff not overly friendly, but were approachable and knowledgeable. My dog was allowed in with me if I could carry him which I could. I was able to pay with card. Have all the basic convenience store stuff + Asian dishes + a ton of Asian tea + imported Asian convenience store stuff including candy + umbrellas + flip flops + knick knacks. It really has everything!

I love this shop. In this end of downtown, access to groceries (especially after 5pm) is limited. I'm always pleasantly surprised, Quonley's seems to have whatever random item I need! Lots of great products from Asia, as well as the essentials I end up needing- Lays chips, sour cream, baking soda, Windex, etc. I shop here regularly and appreciate that the staff keep it open late until 8pm.

I love the rude lady who is always there when I go. I can't believe all the babies who cry about her.
How insecure are we in our culture when we can't handle directness and someone not grinning at us for no reason? Grow a pair.

Great gift shop and convenience store located downtown. Great place to get a nice cold drink on a hot sunny day during the summer. Friendly staff and good customer service.

I go here on a regular basis and the owners are very nice and they have yummy basic decently priced ice cream cones - nothing fancy- but a nice treat on a hot day that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! and a fun neighbourhood to enjoy it

Wonderful people who work there. Wide variety of products. Quality and unique dinnerware. By no means inexpensive..for anything. None the less, it’s an experience

I come here pretty often and the lady behind the counter is very friendly, it's a little expensive but it is in a tourist hotspot, you pay for the convenience.

The man working tonight did a great job dealing with so many customers in such a timely manner. My daughter's left ecstatic with new treats and everyone was assisted
