Natural History Museum Kotel

I have memories from visiting the museum when I was 5-6 years old and it left a vivid memory. So I brought my now 6-year old kid to see it. The scale of the exhibit and the number of specimens is stunning. Also stunning is that there has been no updates to the exhibits in the last 40 years. It would be fantastic to update the decorations in the dioramas so not everything is brown.

I love this place from the bottom of my heart. There you can find about 30 000 exibists:fossils, plants, birds, butterflies, fish, reptiles, minerals and cristals. The most interesting animals are the wolves, deers, roe, bears and wild boar. I think you really don't know how big could be a wolf

Surprisingly big museum for such a small town. A large collection of animals, backed up with sound effects throughout the exhibition. Great place for curious kids.
The building is located in a big park, where one can take a long walk in the nature, or sit for a relaxing meal between the trees. No public transport to the museum, so getting there is either by car, or on foot, which is not far off from the town's center.
The museum's visits are free on Mondays.

There is a big variety of animal species you can see. You can learn the basics of the animal kingdom and additional information about each animal which is pretty cool. But you should have in mind that the base is old and you should not have big expectations for the expositions and their support.

Wonderful site to visit with little or a bit older children together with adults. You can meet a great variety of species that live or once lived in Bulgaria. Works until 6 in rhe evening.
