Don't leave yourself trapped inside the house, go out to know the world .. Know the nation, the group, know their heritage .....

Hold on to your own traditions, respect the traditions of others.

This ethnological museum in Chittagong is such a museum where you can find out the different ethnic groups of Bangladesh and Pakistan, their heritage, their way of life, their daily life .........

Come on in, take a look and enjoy yourself!

Note: You must keep the museum clean and tidy, do not throw dirt there .. Do not touch anything ..
Don't do anything that conflicts with anyone's honor .................

Loved the place . Most underrated museum in bangladesh from my point of view. Its second big ethological museum in the world. The big one located in japan.

In this museum you will be able to see all types of ethnic group particularly in south asia portion. However you will not be able to see their life movement but also the dress and ornaments uses. It will certainly make you more knowledgeable when you see this type of collections.

Most informative museum i think. You must visit this place at once you come to CTG.

Welcome to Ethnological Museum of Chittagong, Bangladesh! Take a virtual tour with the moments that I captured during my visit.

The museum is located in Agrabad circle of Agrabad Commercial Area. It cost around BDT 20/- for an adult ticket (for foreigners, the cost is higher) to enter the museum. The frontline of the museum is decorated with gardens and inside of the museum is decorated with different ethnographic clothing and home accessories which were used during their time.

The museum’s wall and interior needs much attention to modify since it looks old and decaying. The lighting system inside the museum should also be upgraded!

A less known but very important museum of Bangladesh. This is one of the only 2 Ethnological museums in Asia. Another one is in Japan. This museum displays the lifestyle of more than 29 tribes that lived across Bangladesh. That include the hilly tribes like Chakma, Marma, Murong, Saotaal, Khasia and some foreign tribes like Pathan, Sindhi, Kirgiz, Austral etc. A great place for general audience and researchers.

The Chittagong Ethnological Museum, located in the bustling commercial street of Agrabad, is the country’s lone ethnological museum. It offers the visitors the chance to acquaint with the lifestyles and heritage of various ethnic groups of the country. This museum was established in 1965.

The museum contains four galleries and a small hall. Three galleries of the museum feature diverse elements of 25 ethnic groups, including Chakma, Marma, Tongsinga, Khumi, Murang, Sautal, Garo, Chak, Monipuri, Palia, Tipra, Hajang, Lusai, Shimuji and Bom while the rest of the galleries display the lifestyles of some racial groups of India, Pakistan, and Australia. The sculptures of the people of different ethnic communities and a piece of broken Berlin Wall draw the visitors especially the children who can get impression of different festivals, livelihoods, and cultures of the communities from the murals set up at the hall room. People between 200 and 300 visits the museum every day.

One of the best & rich museum for introduce the lifestyle of the indigenous peoples from Bangladesh, Aisa & from Australia...many different household stuffs & cloths are kept in the different glass box with the information.
The Ethnological Museum of Chittagong is the only ethnological museum in Bangladesh. Located in Agrabad, Chittagong, it contains displays featuring the history of Bangladesh's tribal people. The museum was established in 1965 and opened to the public in 1974. Two rooms were added to the museum during 1985–1995. In 1996, a gallery with folk articles of Bengali-speaking people was added. This collection of tribal accoutrements could be so much more. The museum is divided into many rooms, each representing a different tribe. Given the proximity to the Hill Tracts, this is an appropriate location for a museum of this type. Unfortunately, the displays need up-dating. There is very little to help you figure out the differences between the tribes. But as a catalog of all the different clothing, tools, ornaments, housing styles, etc, this museum is quite thorough.
This is a very nice place. Where ideas about the whole tradition are found.
The entrance fee here is 20 rupees per person. Visitor time different on seasonal time (winter/Summer).
(October to March. April to September)
