A very historical site if you read the back story on Mitchell the explorer.

This simple stone cairn memorialises three of Surveyor General Mitchell’s four expeditions of discovery. Mitchell was a military Scot, and his expeditions were well regarded by the colony at the time.

Today, his legacy is controversial. He formed strong bonds with a number of First People - particularly the Wiradjuri warrior called Yuranigh his "guide, companion, councillor and friend" and he attributed the peaceful success of their great adventure into central Queensland to Yuanigh's ability to perceive danger, defuse aggression and make fine observations. Yuranigh’s memorial is nearby Molong. However, his expeditions were marred by violent confrontation with other First People.

Mitchell is also credited with using his knowledge of the boomerang gained during the expeditions to improve ship propeller designs - innovations that remain part of modern design.

His second expedition started here, near Boree Creek and went to the Darling and then to the Menindee Lakes. The third and fourth expeditions came through this location to north west Victoria and later Western Queensland.

Good little spot for a rest. No taps or tables or toilet but there is a garbage bin and a pretty big tree for shade.
Interesting historical landmark though :)

It is a good place to pull over for a rest.
Often used by truckies for an overnight sleep.

Sadly the modern interpretive sign that might have explained this historic monument more is missing, just a couple of broken posts where it used to be.
