Excellent walk to 800 metre odd high peak, overlooking the whole coast south and north. The track to the start of the walk ideally needs a 4WD, or leave the car lower down and enjoy a longer walk.

Amazing 360 views. Very windy. Worth the raised heartrate. A good challenging walk for the average person. Good shoes and stability required. Four wheel drive for the last couple of km of road.

Amazing views on a clear day but u need a 4WD to get there and there are many rock steps to climb to the top! Not for the faint hearted and only fit people can climb it!

Wicked view fairly accessible even if you're not exceedingly fit provided you're sure footed rode near to the top on me road bike was a tad sketchy but doable

Good gravel road up then turns a little rocky so would suggest 4 x 4. It was very misty on the day we went but I can imagine that the views are incredible when it's clear

Magnificent scenery & a pleasure to be the only ones there. 4WD track & quite challenging. Did it, two up on an adventure bike & still a work out with mud, deep ruts & large rocks. Loved the vegetation & rock formations.

Nice view! It’s 360! Good weather and I felt I’m at the same level with the cloud! I drove SUV 4WD XTrail but I couldn’t get to the car park for the last 200m. It’s too slippery cause the sand and soft mud. I parked my car beside the road which was enough for another car passing through. Walked up for about 15 minutes to the top. Worth to do it.

Narrow track for large vehicles, especially to turn around at the top. Lookout is great on a clear day. Bit of a scramble at the top but safe.

For the adventure minded check out this easily accessible lookout with granite rock formations and views to die for. Road is a bit rough but take it easy.

Really good 360° lookout to the ocean and the inland. Best is to park your car 500 m before the lookout. Last 200m are steps built in stone up to the top. Really beautiful. Must do!

Great views from St Helens to Bicheno! Take the road off Semmens Rd, turn right at the unsignposted Y junction. After 1.4 km from Semmens Rd, the road is AWD/4WD only, requiring reasonable clearance. The road narrows from there and there are very few turning areas if you get stuck. Otherwise park at one of the side tracks and walk the rest of the 800 m to the start of the route & steps up to the top. Well worth the effort.

It's a 4WD only track to the summit climb - you can walk from the car park down below. Took us around 30 minutes of uphill walking. From the summit climb it's about 5 minutes of rocky steps to the tippity top.

Worth checking out if you're near St Marys.
