If there is reason why one should check out this secluded beach when visiting Cox Peninsula, it's because you will most likely have the 1.3 km stretch of sand and rocks to yourself. There are also two other beaches further down the coastline, but I don't think they offer the same clear view of Darwin skyline as Wagait does. Located a 20-minute ferry plus 10 minute-drive or 20-minute bicycle ride from Darwin, it makes a decent choice for a day trip when you feel like putting on the 'explorer' hat. The sand is rough and can get very hot during the day, but there is a big stretch of rocks and the sea is just nearby. I wouldn't encourage swimming there as it is an unpatrolled beach, but the local wildlife and history are worth getting to know. A lot of water and sunscreen are essential, food and snacks are recommended.

Wagait beach is a relaxed hideaway for the Darwin locals to spend time fishing, camping and in the great outdoors. The beaches are clean and tidy, quiet and well maintained, the locals are friendly and happy to have a chat. Easy commute from the Ferry at Cullen Bay or a cruisy 1.5 hour drive on sealed roads.

Nice beach to go for stroll with that special someone, keep an eye out for crocodiles, unfortunately I would not recommend a swim.
