Old Wentworth Gaol

Lovely old goal well maintained. Has lots of artefacts to look at. Staff very friendly. It is a self guided tour and you can take as long as you like. Park and toilets opposite goal . Town musuem is also across the road.

Nice old jail for a quick visit. Enjoyed looking at the history of the jail's and it's surrounds. Entry was cheap.

Our family loved this old gaol. Such a great experience to be able to have some insight into how hard things were back in the early colonisation times.

Possibly not very accessible for people with walking disabilities or wheel chairs due to steps.

Very fascinating! I enjoyed exploring the history of this place at my own pace, taking pictures and learning a little about what life would have been like for someone incarcerated during the 1800's. Nice to see an Aboriginal inclusion as well.

The Old Wentworth gaol is the oldest Australian designed gaol and was built between 1879-1881 and operated till 1927. The Gaol gives you a glimpse into how life was as a prisoner back in those days. It has a male cell block of 10 cells and female cell block of only 2 cells. Lots of information & stories are there inside to read about who were prisoners, gaolers and others in Old Wentworth gaol. Definitely worth a visit if you are around Wentworth or Mildura.

This old gaol combines fascinating Australian history with a real spook factor. The history of the gaol is old and full of interesting stories. The complex has been really well maintained over the years so it is possible to get a good handle on what conditions must have been like. The displays are interesting and grounds are worthwhile. The people that run the gaol are good old 'outback' sorts who are friendly and like a good yarn. And I think it was only 6 or 7 dollars per adult entry which is a steel. If you're passing this way, and love a good history lesson, you'd be crazy not to spend an hour or two here.

Great place to visit to learn about a bit of the history of Wentworth and the stark reality of what prisoners lived in and the way they were treated. So well kept a credit to whoever is looking after this site.

Good place to know.about the history

It was worth a little visit and small scale so easy to do. Old prisons are always sad places for me because they represent physically the oppression of disadvantaged people.

This is the only place around Mildura/Wentworth where we found out anything about the modern indigenous people of the region and that was really worth it.

Very interesting part of history and very well maintained. Would have been better if they had a tour guide to explain more of the history. Still worth the drive.

My family loved this place,kids loved seeing how old gaols use to be
