Making up a great 4X4 day trip out of Sydney, the journey to the Lost City, Lithgow, combines, great views, rocky tracks, and as much challenge as you want.
This place is a maze of tracks, chicken tracks and side tracks. It’s great for exploring, and checking out the capability of yourself and your 4X4. keep an eye out on your ground clearance, and keep an ‘exit strategy’ in mind. That being said, there is almost always an option that is less onerous. This can be a single journey, or it can make up part of a bigger run. While you’re out there, check out the Black Fellows Hand track, the Glow Worm Tunnel. What makes this place so worthwhile is Lost City itself. When you make it, you’ll be looking over an incredible valley, filled with towers of honeycombed ironstone rock. It’s a unique geological phenomenon, crafted out of the earth over millions and millions of years.
This is a reasonably challenging journey, so you need to be prepared. Pack the usual suspects when it comes to recovery gear: straps, points and a shovel. Because of the nature of the tracks, it would be worthwhile taking some mapping with you as well, an/or a GPS or Navigator to find your way.

Not easy to get to but we'll worth the effort especially if you like a little adventure!
***Well folk's I hope you enjoyed it because Nat Parks have closed the roads. There is no access at the moment. Go to their website for details***
Now it really is a Lost city!

This is truly an amazing place. Just the way to get there will make your adventure different than any other. You can either have a 4x4 and serious skills are needed to drive to the List City. Or you can park your car beforehand and walk about 30-40min to the place. We did walk and were happy to do so when we saw how bad the trails were!
Once there, it's a totally different view than the ones you are used to in the blue mountains. Especially since the recent bushfires that burnt all vegetation around. Still, the place is a very unique landscape that you don't want to miss if you're traveling in the area!

This place is for the 4wd and camping enthusiasts! This trail starts at the old zig zag railway, following the old bells line of Rd just out of Lithgow. Airing your tyres down to around 25psi would be recommended to help with corrugations and potholes, there's alot of 4wd tracks to take on, they vary from different skill levels of offroading so pick wisely. The main attraction is The Lost City, this place is amazing! Different from the typical Blue Mountains views but equally as scenic! Worth checking out

The off-road roads here are very exciting! Worth to experience! It is recommended to drive 100% four-wheel drive here, because the process of driving the CR-V is very difficult, but we still reach the end in a thrilling way, the scenery here is really good!

Great 4wd trip.
You need a good vehicle with good tyres and plenty of ground clearance. A soft roader won’t be enough.
Turn off at the zig zag railway. Follow the dirt road straight up the hill. Keep going until you get to the power lines at the top of the ridge near State Mine Rd. Turn right and go to the first substation then head west.
There are two sides to Lost City. The western side is marked on Google Maps. These direction are for the eastern side. East is better in my opinion.

Fantastic scenery and drive in. Those with 4wd, try the Powerline track, alot of fun especially if there is rain prior to visit.

There’s two roads to this place - 1 that requires a 4*4 and one that doesn’t. Make sure you know which you are going on!

Fantastic place to view these unique sandstone structure. Unfortunately you need a 4WD to get to this place. It’s like the famous 3 Sisters at Katoomba but you now have a hundred sisters spread across the place.

Powerful view, after some 4x4 drive. Used the north side road. Definitely needs at least AWD.

A wild and evocative location. Climb one of the stone pagodas, just be quiet and soak in the atmosphere - late in the day, with the crows calling across the valley it can be beautifully spooky. Definitely 4wd or (my preference) adventure bike only.

Excellent view, worth the trip.
You can get most of the way with a standard 4wd and walk to the end.
