Loved this walk. Nice wide path, very manageable incline, suitable for children. Plenty of history to read about along the way. You'll get a great sense of how amazing an engineering achievement this was - for something built in the early 1800's. Not much parking at the start of the trail (5 or 6 spots), we had to travel down the road a little further. Great way to spend an hour wearing out the kids if you're in the area.

Great trail to soak in the views of the river.
Trail is nice and wide with a well formed track. Space for a few cars at the bottom. There are POI every few hundred meters with a story or some facts about the history along with figurines or props. Will come back and do a longer stint

It's been over 10 years since I've walked this track. So very happy to see the work, and detail that has gone into the upkeep and maintenance of this historical and fascinating site. The info boards are highly detailed, and I love the added little flea disks with fun little facts!! Great work by the locals and avid historians who have preserved and improved the quality of the site dramatically.

Great drive from Bucketty through to St Albans then Wisemans Ferry. Be prepared for dirt roads (of good condition in the dry) History of Convict construction at various points. Some fantastic work considering the basic tools they had to use.

So much history at this place, blows my mind what the convicts went through to build this engineering masterpiece linking Sydney to the Hunter Valley and Newcastle

A great walk which is maintained by the NPWS, there is also a guided app you can download prior to visiting. You'll need plenty of water on a hot day.

Great track. I took it on the bike, it's a nice and low incline climb, with plenty of info tags to read and learn from. Great for an early morning start. Or else you can have difficulty finding a parking at the entrance. A great way to spend a few hours in the nature.

Simple route. Convicts trail in Darug National Park. We walked further on and did a big loop circa 10km. Devines Hill (45 mins) up Old Great North Road, then turned left at the Great North Road sign post to follow the loop around Shepperds Gully Circuit (30 mins). Then once back at the sign post, follow Finch's Line trail all the way to Wisemens Ferry Road (1.15 hours) then back along the road to the start of Convicts Trail (20 mins) where we started. There's space for 3-4 cars at the entrance of Convicts Trail which is about 1 minute drive from the ferry crossing. Good walk, plenty of hills and a clear path the whole way.

This is an essential place to visit. The work is beautiful and yet it was built by men in chains using hand tools. In 21st century life we are inured to the fact that convict life meant terrible hardship, often far in excess of the criminality of the offences that lead to transportation.
