Gordon Primary School

I can't speak more highly of the Principal and Staff of this great little school. Coming from Melbourne to the area two years ago we are still in wonder at the inclusivity and individual care exhibited in what is an extraordinarily good education environment. I'd single out the reading program and the prep grade one teachers for a special mention. Every kid is treated with care particular to their needs and special attention is given gently and respectfully when required. I love it!

There are expansive natural open areas in which to explore and play, a sports field and basketball court and equipment to climb and swing on and who doesn't like monkey bars??!! While the kids achieve exceptional academic results in the core disciplines, (incidentally much higher than what I experienced from our previous school in the inner city), they are also exposed to specialist subjects like STEM, Art and even Woodwork. PE and music is also undertaken and sports days are exciting events that all the kids look forward to. Then there's the fun of the Billy Cart Derby!

What impresses me the most though is that the kids all know each other's names; from Prep to Year Six and they are always pulling for each other no matter the year level. There's a large and inclusive school community of parents and friends of the school that has made us feel welcome and quite frankly, at home. My girls both love going to school every day and I'm thrilled with the educational outcomes and the social benefits that they are obtaining at this ripper little school.

I would not recommend this particular school if your child has any additional needs, children end up isolated & have terrible experiences due to this, it is not an inclusive school for children who suffer any behaviour disorders or who suffer emotional problems , one male staffer does not believe in ADHD or Autism spectrum disorders, he isolates children and segregates them, this one particular staffer has ruined all of the hard work that long time dedicated teachers have put in, they are no longer teaching there due to this,there are plenty of other schools in the area, Ballan Bungaree,St Pats,St Bridget's just to name a few, your children are constantly under CCTV surveillance which is disturbing as a parent, so many local families have removed their children from this school, myself included due to the way it has been run, it is more like a private school rather than a public school, if your willing to help out and volunteer your child/ren will get preferential treatment, but if you choose not to help they will not get the same treatment as the others, hard working parents who don't have the time are treated even worse. I had been a part of the school since 2002 and chose to step away and let others have the opportunity to help and be on the school committe as I had had my turn. This used to be a wonderful school until a few years ago, Sadly one staff member can ruin and tarnish a whole school, it is common knowledge will all the local families that this is not a great school anymore, your children's images will still be published even though your consent has been formally been withdrawn, if you are new to Gordon or surrounds please consider looking at other schools, as a parent I can honestly say my child is much better off away from this school, I also have worked with many children and I see so many things that are just not right, some of them are absolutely disgusting. There are so many CCTV cameras all over the grounds it's not warranted or normal for this sort of surveillance in a primary school, your child/ren are watched all day long which is disturbing and bizzare, it is not the nice welcoming school it once was, my review on the Facebook site was removed it was honest and I I would never wish what happened to my child to happen to any other child or family as your children are the most important people, if you are considering this school I would encourage you to look at all of the other surrounding schools as this is not the only school in the area.
