Great stop to stay. Not a lot for room. We made it down with our van. So quite. The track down is narrow and not maintained. Definitely not for the big rigs.

Amazing glacier rock formations. I didn’t take pics of them because the pictures would not do them justice. Well worth the look. The warmer months this place would be a lovely place to cool off. Camping is allowed also which is a bonus. The toilets are not very clean but otherwise it’s a nice area.

AMAZING! I was very lucky to be there after lots of rain so the cascading waterfalls were flowing beautifully. There are 2 toilets and free camping if you are totally self sufficient.
This is a gorgeous place so if you are planning on staying, please take all your rubbish with you! Don't spoil it.

A definite place to stop and explore. Could have stayed for hours, even camped overnight. Make sure you take the LEFT track to get down to the stream and rocks. The right one leads to a dead end where you can park and walk a short distance and view the stream and swimming holes from a high vantage point, though it's not a brilliant view.
At the end of the left track are drop toilets (one make, one female) which were clean and stocked with toilet paper, and a good sized parking area. A fairly short walk down the steep rocks brings you to the amazing rocks.

The rocks here are made up of many different sizes and types of stones, all cemented together in a matrix of finer gravels, sand and clay. It is a conglomerate; or to be more exact it is a fluvio-glacial conglomerate.
So how did it form? As a glacier flows it gathers and carries with it broken rock material. Eventually all this transported material is deposited at its terminus, that is, the point at which higher temperatures cause the glacier to melt.

Rocky Creek Glacier is about 30 mins from Bingara on the road to Narrabri. You can drive to the edge of the glacier. Send someone ahead if you're towing, as the gravel carpark is small & you may not be able to turn around. Only a minute walk if you can park up next to the main road.
Astounding to walk over this 290 million year old formation. Well worth seeing & it can simply be a 10 min stop if you're pushed for time.

I love this place...if you can get your head around geological history you'll be amazed . This glacial activity took place in the Carboniferous period, 290milliom years ago, back when Australia was attached to Antarctica, Africa and South America! A totally different world!

What a breathtaking experience. The drive to reach such a remote and personable area was itself an experience. Clear flowing water, and swimming holes. It's a journey one would not regret. Even saw a young codd in the same place we were swimming !
