Star Hotel Yackandandah

Stopped by here for lunch one day, Parma, Beef Burger, and Moroccan Beef Salad were all great and then we read reviews about the meat dishes and had to come back another night to try dinner.
We did, and we absolutely LOVED the glaze on the honey mustard wings, and we also tried the Scotch fillet, brisket and beef ribs which were all sensational, and generous serves.
Staff were great, and it's a cool little spot with shaded outdoor tables or space indoors.
Definitely will be on the list for returning in any future visits to the region.

I loved my meal. I had barramundi, which had a knob of smoked butter on it. The salad with it was better than the average salad you get with a pub meal, and the meal had just the right amount of chips. The service was fast and friendly. I noted they had ribs going out to other patrons, which looked delicious. My daughter had Calamari, which I tried. It was very fresh and tender.
An above average meal.
The pub looked rustic and old, but the experience was very surprising. My meal was gratis, because I won a voucher which covered our meals and 2 drinks.

My only reservation about the food here is that my stomach cannot extend enough to fit it all in. It is a fallacy and a fault of mine. But the kitchen is equally at fault of making such delicious smelling, looking, and most importantly, tasting food that I have attempted to surpass my physical ability to non-dtop eat well into the evening.

If you don't order the burnt brisket ends, you've missed out on what I can say is the best slow cooked BBQ tasting plate I have had to date.

If you order the brisket burnt ends, you too will share in my grief that you cannot have a never ending supply.

Burnt brisket ends can bring about a vision of dry-to-the-point-of-powder roasts from depression-era grandmothers past. But these were juicy, tasty, and fatty morsels of caramelised art. Each bite deserves a round of applause. This isn't just a pub. It's a gallery of gestational art.

Perhaps it is the sunny curbside seating that allows you to take it the adjacent park and the slow crawl of local traffic (where today there was obviously some kind of amazing car show), or perhaps it is the sunny disposition of Sean and the team that make you want to have another beer that made us realise that we hadn't received our food after an hour or so.

Something that usually spells disaster. Something that may make this a 2 or 1 star review.

But when I approached the bar to enquire, all tools were down. All vets were off. Sean and the team didn't just step up and deliver, but they pulled people off their break to deliver. It wasn't their fault either, a technical glitch with the printer driver has meant that the docket wasn't printed to the kitchen.

You would expect an apology and a quick serving of the food would suffice. But in adversity, the mettle of what real customer service is comes about.

Sean walked us through how he would be putting on extra staff to ensure that this doesn't happen to you. The next customers to experience this awesome meal, with this awesome team.

Read my reviews. I'm not from around here and have been happy to point out faults and provide advice to others in similar situations. But none olhave done it like the team did today.

The bratwurst was a little dry, but my guess that is more of a timing of the printer technical issues more than anything else.

The gravy was banging, the coleslaw slayed, the kolsch has meant that my mountain bike ride back to camp is questionable at best and I will be back again.

It was quiet night but the food and service is fantastic, I had the Brisket, Awsome menu too . 100% recommend....

Good beer, great food... had the brisket, ribs and buffalo wings ( spicy!!!,, just need blue cheese or ranch dressing)..all so tender!...old school pub with character.

They’ll do you a great lunch. A great pub. Really good people working down there. They’ve got a BBQ platter that’s pretty fancy, and some great counter meals. Definitely should get down there and support the pub.

Brisket and ribs, excellent. Good beer, good chats. All on a Monday night!

We have a holiday family dinner here every year. This year we had the beef rib & slaw (best I've had in a long time) and fish and chips excellent. Good selection of mainstream and craft beer too. Hats off to Sean, Israel and the crew.

The Star Hotel in Yackandandah is one of the few notable places to visit in the town but I would recommend it as a must if you're in the area.

The pub had many areas for indoor and outdoor seating and accommodated bookings of 1 to a whole room of 30+. There was also a well-lived in feeling about the place with a positive atmosphere and rustic decor. The staff's professionalism and friendly manner would make you think they were working for tips, top notch. Not to mention the speed of the food service, as it was second to none, I purchased the Brisket Burnt Ends and they brought it out in minutes among various other dishes including salmon with lemon butter and a Korean fried chicken burger. Although the food was a bit above average in price it was well above average in quality. The brisket burnt ends, pictured in this review, was melt in your mouth tender, sweet, savoury, filling and the sesame seeds added a nice nutty tone to the dish.

Finally, the venue is best accessed via High Street where there is herringbone parking available. Wheelchair accessible as well.

A visit to Yackandandah for a Luka Bloom concert and enjoyed a great meal and beer at the Star Hotel. The food menu selection was great and was perfectly prepared and presented. The bar staff provided great and friendly service and a good selection of craft beers available.

Awesome country pub with most delicious and reasonably priced meals. Some nights they have a local band playing in the background which is a bonus

Best burnt ends I've ever had... & I've been to Texas!

Highly recommend the barbeque, we all enjoyed our meals whether it was beef or pork ribs, onion rings, potato cakes, it was all great.

The staff were really friendly & helpful despite being understaffed & very busy on a holiday weekend, searching high & low for the best available table for our group.

I can't wait to go back for more delicious barbeque

Delicious, very filling, friendly staff. Dog friendly but do call ahead.

Some of the locals are a bit lackadaisical about Mr Spicy Cough Cough, but that's not really the fault of the owners.

Had dinner here over the 2023 ANZAZ long weekend.
Service was good and the food was terrific. Pig Wing (a huge Pork Knuckle) Beef rib, Burnt Brisket ends, Bratwurst Links with a side of MacNCheese (more cheese than mac but very tasty nonetheless). Good sized portions and cooked well on the smoker/bbq

My meal Was over priced $$ 4 the size of the serving . However my friends meals were exceptional sized servings & very decent food . Staff were gr8. And anytime u can get in2 the country towns Ur doing very well .

Great country pub, very popular on a weekend, lots of tourists and locals making up the lunchtime crowd. Unlucky to run into the town drunk, who seemed fixated on USA based conspiracy theories. Staff were doing well to manage him without biffing him one.

A beautiful setting. Great service ,professional, helpful, and courteous. The menu was impressively varied and the dishes certainly worthwhile. Will visit again.

We popped in for an early dinner. Barramundi and scotch fillet with vege’s and mash. Was absolutely delicious. Staff were friendly and efficient. Would highly recommend.
