Great memorial for the miners of Cobar and surrounding mines. Set our really well and you can take your dogs for a walk around a well. Allow between half to an hour to read all the plaques

Amazing site, thank you for the site for allowing guests to visit.
I always wanted to see an open pit.
From the carpark to the lookout it's a 15 sec walk.
Enough for all fitness levels to enjoy.

It’s a giant hole in the ground with winding roads taking trucks to the bottom and tied walls on the other side. It doesn’t happen all the time but if you spend a bit of time here, you can also see trucks loaded with ores traveling slowly up the road and climbing 100+ meters. You are looking at part of a working gold mine that had finished its open cut life and commenced underground mining. Next door you have the water treatment facility - Cobar doesn’t have any rivers and the town’s drinking water comes from Wellington via Nyngan; this is the local treatment facility. You can see some nice local landscapes including mining equipments from other mines.

Went here with low expectations. Left feeling quite mesmerised! Seeing the giant trucks wind up and down the roads like little ants crawling along was pretty unbelievable. Puts it into perspective when you see the people standing alongside the truck at the bottom how big both the trucks and mine really are! We spent a good 30min here reading the information boards and watching the action in front of us.

Must visit if you are passing by Cobar. A good lookout / view point overlooking an underground mine.

A well constructed safe viewing platform to view the mine below and it’s just a few steps from the carpark.

It’s also a good place to view sunset in the outback !

Only wish people visiting carry their rubbish / plastic bottles with them when they leave the site instead of throwing them around.

Superb views of a 24 X 7 Gold mine in Cobar. Go at midday for no shadows in your photos and at sunset for deeper reds and (often) a fantastic sky. Without doubt a must see on any visit to Cobar.

This lookout is located on a sealed road just a few kms outside of Cobar, very easily accessed and the cage you stand in at the viewing platform is very safe and well positioned. This is a must see, what a unique experience.

Great views down into the pit and over the surrounding land. You can see the old hand dug workings as well as the current underground shaft. Straight forward signposting - just follow your nose and signs from the highway. Well worth a stop over on your way through.
