Awesome accessible trail up in the alpine region at Mt Hotham. Can do out and back to Mt Feathertop in one day or can camp at the other end. On a ridge line all the way with views of mountains on both sides.

I absolutely loved this walk. I did it solo, it took me 6hr 50min and was 24km including a detour to the only toilet on the route (near Federation Hut, over 9km in).
Early mornings are quite cool even on hot days so wear a jacket. Sunscreen, a hat, aeroguard, a litre of water and sustenance are essential. Keep in mind though the lack of toilets!
Watch every step because most of the track is rocky, sometimes narrow with steep drop-offs and snakes like to sun themselves on the track. The scenery is beautiful and the camaraderie between walkers made for a really lovely, fun day.

I did a Razorback trail in February this year. Although it was summer, early morning in the mountain was really cold if not freezing. I’d suggest to bring a pair of warm gloves because my fingers were frozen. The trail graded as 4 but I’d say it’s a moderate with some manageable ascending. It’s long 22km return walk and takes between 7-10 hours depending on the pace. It starts at Mount Hotham and following the trail all the way towards Mount Feathertop summit. The signage is clear. The morning mist and sunrise were awesome and colourful wildflowers and bugs. It’s one of the best walk I did so far. I’d do it again if I visit Victoria Mount Hotham😎

Beautiful scenery, if I'd had water a backpack more time and a different jacket( for the elements). We would have done Feathertop. But it was icy, hill and about 1230pm so needed to be up here earlier and possibly with poles.

The trailhead is easy to notice and follow. Its opposite the Diamantina hut in the other side of the road.
On your right hand side, you can actually see the trail toward Fethertop mt from the main road. Just follow that trail, you would not be lost :)

Went to mount feathertop and had a blast, really great scenery and an easy (although long) trail. Just park on the side of the street with everyone else. About 6hrs return.

One of the best day hike ever. This trail isn't that easy for novice hiker as it's an 24km return trip to the summit via Razorback trail. The path is laden with loose rocks that challenges those with weak ankles. As the path snakes through the spur ridges, there are sections that are narrow and precarious and close to the edge of very steep slopes or cliffs; One slip and you would fall or tumble straight down to your death. Go slow there. Thus, do conserve energy so that you can make it back safely if you are doing this trail in a day. Your legs might feel wobbly on the return trip and that's the riskiest part. There are sections with really steep climb and descent. The final ascent to the summit is really steep but well worth the effort. Along the way, your legs and whole body would brush heavily against leaves and branches as the path is narrow; keep this in mind when deciding what to wear, especially those prone to rashes. I would advise starting the climb early to give yourself buffer(6-7 am). Include time for photo-taking. The views on a clear day is mesmerising! As an above-average seasoned hiker, it took me about 5 hours return trip on a brisk pace. I would recommend planning about 7-8 hours for this trail for a reasonably fit person so that you would truly enjoy the hike. Carry water as there are no water ( I carried 2 litre as it was a warm day then) and do snack along the way so that your body has constant supply of energy to tackle the next slope. Go try it!

Amazing views on a clear day - not worth it if the weather /visibility is poor however. Track is rocky so good hiking shoes are a must. The track is well worn, so you can't get lost but at times it seems to go forever - this is a long walk! 7 hour round trip to the summit of feathertop and back, including a lunch stop.
Closed during winter.

Great views in all directions, track can be rough in parts, but mostly easy walking. The ridge is exposed to the elements so pack according to the weather forecast. Highly recommended walk.

Sensational views on a clear day. Exposed country. Carry spare food & water, warm clothing, beanie, gloves, waterproof jacket & pants at all times of the year. Be prepared for rapid changes in the weather, freezing strong wind, hail, sleet or snow at any times of the year.Around 4 hours walking to Federation Hut. No water on the way, take minimum of 1 litre when starting out.

Wonderful walk. Starting the hike at diamantina hut means you don't need to gain or lose significant elevation and can simply enjoy a fantastic view.
