Many moons ago I went there to buy a threaded storm cap and coupling for a 90mm PVC pipe. The going price for the set was from $2.20 to $2.80 - and no more than $3.50 in Cooperpedy.

I saw a set without a price tag and I asked a guy by the name of Darwin, how much for this.

He told me that it was $15.

I kind of gagged at the price and said, "Are you really sure about this price?"

He asked me why.

I told him that he has just quoted me a price that is 5 or 6 times the going retail price for most of Australia.

He then told me, that it was NOT him as the owner of the business who set the prices, it was the sales rep who set the (retail) prices.

There are many owner operators of hardware stores in the district, such as Whycheproof, St Arnold, Boort and Inglewood etc., and the bigger chain stores such as Bunnings and similar, in the regional cities, who all sell the same products at a fair market price.

Thankfully, over the years, Charlton Timber and Hardware appear to have cornered the market on faded signs, vacant yards and abundant crops of thistles and tumble weeds.
