We stayed at The Grand on Macfie just before Christmas before taking the ferry back to Geelong. We loved everything about this place...first and foremost, Paul and Brenden, who were amazing hosts in every way! They went out of their way to provide truly magnificent accommodation in this beautifully decorated historic home. Thought, care and time had been put into absolutely everything including a gorgeous grand large bedroom, an incredible selection of cold and hot foods for breakfast with full table service, the best homemade shortbread, their time to show us around the home and provide so many interesting stories of its history, a guest lounge room area with all facilities we needed...the list could go on. Their talents and expertise in running this guesthouse are second to none. We will most definitely be booking in again on our next trip to Tasmania and have already recommended this place to many others if they are ever in Devonport. Thank you Paul and Brenden for being so welcoming.

Absolutely beautiful grand manor and wonderful hosts. Cooked breakfast and rooms are furnished so beautifully with antique furniture and pieces. We stayed 2 nights in grand queen room and it was comfortable and relaxing. This is a delightful place and historic

My husband and I and another couple booked two lovely rooms for a couple of nights. The Spirit of Tasmania docked late (day sail), so Paul called me to suggest that he book dinner for us - so that we wouldn't be starving. This is just one example of his terrific customer service. And as per the other reviews - the provided breakfasts are fabulous - so many choices (thanks Brendan), the decor is lovely, and it was much appreciated to be able to sit out on the upstairs veranda and watch the boats, or sit in the very comfortable lounge and sip on a pre dinner complimentary sherry, or a post dinner complimentary port. A great start to our Tassie road trip

Rustic yet modern with absolute sensible English touches, gives me an impression that I am staying not in Devonport rather in London. Complementary books to read, a relaxing lounge to read and have a glass of wine. Flowery plants, Peach and apple trees, tasty and juicy peaches we had a couple of them all of these in a small property. The person who owns or manages the property absolutely knows what he does. Oh I wish only if I had booked a bigger room and for many days. And it goes without saying that across most of Australia the actual bath area is made for tiny people, irrespective of how big the actual bathroom is.

We were gifted a voucher for one nights accommodation at the Grand by a dear friend, and decided to book in for two nights to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We run an accommodation business ourselves so tend to be somewhat critical of offerings when we stay at other establishments. We loved our stay here! Brenden and Paul are amazing, friendly and welcoming hosts. We stayed in the most spacious and comfortable room with everything you could possibly want. There is a lovely guest lounge area, but we didn’t use it as our own room was so lovely. The lounge would be perfect if travelling with friends, giving you a nice area to meet up. After a day out exploring the surrounding area we sat out on the balcony sipping a beverage or two watching the shipping movements, then strolled down the street for dinner at one of the many eateries. To top it all off, the guys serve up the most amazing breakfast each morning. We loved our stay, and will be back (yep, you have been warned 😜).

OMG, this place is DIVINE in every detail. Absolutley magnificent heritage propery, located a perfect walking distance from Devonport shopping hub. Brenden and Paul are helpful welcoming friendly hosts and have done an amazing job with this property. Breakfast was equally divine, and perfectly presented. We loved our stay and will be back (so will my Mum). PS: your home grown apricots made it safely to Melb and were delicious, thanks :)

Located overlooking the docked Spirit of Tasmania and beautiful ocean in the distance. Perfectly restored and the hosts delightful. Never have we had such a generous freshly cooked breakfast in a B&B. Such a lovely experience.

Beautifully restored historic building. The owners are lovely and really have a passion for the place and their guests. The rooms are individually styled to really celebrate the history of the hotel.
The cooked breakfast is amazing.
I would definitely recommend

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Grand on Macfie. Paul and Brendan are wonderful hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. It really is a "grand' old house set in a lovely garden, all beautifully maintained. You can't beat it for comfort, mood and charm. The view of the river from the upstairs verandah is a lovely sight at sundown for a quiet drink. The unexpected bonus was the breakfast, it was just delicious. Highly recommend this hotel and would stay again!

Superb hospitality. Greeted by Paul and home-made shortbread cookies;), An a la cart breakfast menu, which is unusual for a B&B, made perfectly by Brendan. A glass of port or sherry offered to end your evening. Beautiful Egyptian cotton sheets on a comfy king mattress. The entire Victorian style home was decorated with beautiful antiques from crystal chandeliers, stained glass windows to lovely furnishings. Paul was very helpful on suggestions where to see platypuses during the day, little penguins and places to dine. All were 100% on. We would stay here again.

We spent two nights at The Grand On Macfie. It was brilliant. The gardens are lovely and well maintained. Old style roses and cottage flowers were in abundance. We were well looked after by our hosts. The room was amazing, being furnished in 1800-1900s period style. There was a lovely guest lounge room that was comfy and inviting. Port and sherry were available in the evening. All rooms and facilities are spotlessly clean. The breakfast was a real highlight of our stay. All meals are cooked to order. The selection was good, and food was fresh and very tasty. The service was excellent, unobtrusive yet friendly. We would not hesitate to revisit The Grand On Macfie again and thoroughly recommend it.

I have to say this is THE nicest accomodation that my wife an I have stayed in. Beautiful building and room, perfectly decorated. Paul was an excellent host who was both knowledgeable and passionate about the place. No expense has been spared on the restoration to meet the high expectations of the owners. Breakfast 10/10 , staff 10/10, our room 10/10.
Next time we're in Tassie we'll be looking to stay here again. Thanks for a great experience.

A gorgeous grand mansion, owned and run by the superb hosts Paul and Brendon. The most comfortable 4 poster bed, lovingly restored and decorated rooms and the best breakfast in Devonport. You can see the Spirit of Tasmania outside the front windows.
Off street parking and close to everything. A wonderful place to stay in Devonport.

What a great 0lace to stay. Paul & Brendan are the best hosts you could wish to meet. The breakfast is something to die for. We were let down with our booked accommodation in Devonport and all other accommodation was taken. It looked like we would be sleeping in the car in a park until we found this. Thank you both
for your kindness and friendship. We recommend this place to everyone.
We will be back.
Ken & Glenn.

From the minute we arrived to the moment we left - we had the best stay at the Grand on Macfie. We were warmly welcomed and showed around and Paul even helped to organise and book our dinner plans for that night. Our room was beautiful which is a reflection of the entire building and our stay was pleasant the whole way through. Brenden and Paul were fantastic hosts and have created such a beautiful experience. We cannot wait to return and recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting Devonport.

Paul is an amazing host and the place itself is simply stunning. Real old school luxury including a charming communal lounge area and an incredibly comfy bed. The free brekky the next morning was delicious and perfect way to start the day. Will be back next time we are in Devonport, you can tell the owners really take pride in the place, as they should. Thanks a lot
