Food was amazing and the service exceptional. I loved the fact that the veggies are organic and cultivated in their own private farm. The variety on the menu and flavours is something that makes the restaurant stands out! I also want to say thank you to Tiago that offered us a top notch service. Definitely coming back soon!

Group of 4 from Melbourne dined outdoors and had the feed-me menu and it was a wonderful experience for all of us. Superb food, amazing renovation which has been well planned and done to the finest detail, engaging host (and dog) and great service. Will be recommending to all friends heading across at any time and we’ll be back when next across.

My husband and I did the three night package at Penobscot Farm; what an amazing experience. The farm tour, degustation, wine tasting and feed me lunch were all exceptional. Our hosts Warwick, Nicola and Frankie Blue were the best and went out of their way to ensure that we had a memorable time; thank you! Would highly recommend this to anyone who appreciates great food and wine, the food at the hotel is top class, can’t wait to come back :)

A memorable and utterly delicious meal. Beautiful food prepared with flair. The service was perfect. The staff were friendly and attentive. The venue is wonderful. One of the beat meals I have had in a long time. This restaurant should have at least one hat.

Was staying in leasingham and found this place online. Really old pub that’s been beautifully restored and had a very modern kitchen added. Once I found out who the owners and chef was not hard to understand why.
Had a fantastic time with great food and the best wine list I have seen in a pub ever.
Went back 2 nights later for more and can highly recommend the duck sliders, wagyu burger, beef carpaccio and poached prawns.
Friendly hosts and servers and a dog that loves a pat.
Pity it’s not in Perth as I would go all the time .

This was an excellent culinary experience!
I wish we were able to do a farm tour without having to do the six-course degustation as we couldn't afford it, but the overall restaurant experience made up for it.
The service was excellent and the food was even better! Truly one of the best meals I've had - coming from a fussy eater!
They were wonderful at catering for coeliacs and made it worth the money! Thank you, more of a reason for us to come back to Clare.

We had the most fabulous tour of the farm and 6 course degustation dinner here. The flavors of the food were fresh and authentic and each of the dishes simply delicious. The icon wine tasting was a great way to sample so many beautiful Clare Valley wines and it was great to share in Warrick’s knowledge of the local wines. . Beyond the food and the wine, the service was excellent and our kids were made so welcome. Thank you so much for a fabulous afternoon and evening. We will be back.

We had the pleasure of having lunch at Watervale Hotel today, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Our waiter, Tiago, truly went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable day. His friendly demeanor and fantastic customer service added an extra layer of enjoyment to our meal. The food was delicious, the ambiance was cozy, and Tiago's attentive service made the entire experience even more delightful. We'll definitely be returning soon! “Obrigado”, Tiago!

My husband & I had the pleasure of experiencing the Penobscot Farm Tour & Six Course Degustation at the Watervale Hotel recently, & we cannot rate it highly enough.
The farm tour with Warrick was interesting, entertaining & engaging - it was wonderful to learn about the work they have already done & all the future plans they have for their biodynamic & organic farm.
This was followed up with the six-course degustation at the Watervale Hotel, where Nicola & her lovely kitchen staff treated us to a number of very tasty, well presented & interesting dishes. The degustation was matched with lovely wines showcasing the Clare Valley region with a mixture of well known & more boutique wineries & wine varietals.
Special mention must go to Frankie, the very best boy & Maitre Dog we ever met.

We had a farewell for a friend who was going back to Tasmania to live. We had a sheltered table in the beer garden with 14 friends. What a great venue the food is exceptionally good, service is very good and the atmosphere is brilliant we have been several time and would say this is must visit restaurant in South Australia let alone the Clare Valley.

Super yummy food! We got the chicken, wagyu burger, broccoli salad, prawns & lamb sausage. Provided very well for me as an coeliac. All very delicious meals that left us full and satisfied.

The best wine list of any restaurant in the Clare Valley! We had a 2006 Grosset Springvale Riesling, which was bursting with complexity, a 2014 Wendouree Shiraz, and a 2020 Mt. Horrocks Cordon Cut Riesling for dessert, all of which combined for an A+ wine experience. The food lived up to the quality of the wine, and there were plenty of great options for vegetarians. Our only suggestion is to play some music in the dining room so the atmosphere is more lively and upbeat. The utter lack of ambience is really noticeable because the food, wine and service are all excellent. Other than that, it was one of the best dining experiences of our trip and definitely a must for food and wine enthusiasts visiting the Clare Valley.

Came in for a very late lunch. Was welcomed and escorted to a delightful courtyard. Staff were attentive and courteous. A serving of prawns exquisite. A Broccoli salad, interesting but average because the broccoli was so close to raw.

So glad we went to the Watervale for lunch. The food and service were excellent. We shared the Lamb Cigars, Duck Sliders and Chicken Liver Parfait. Simply perfect especially when combined with the local Shut the Gate Watervale Riesling. A must visit. And the design and decor is first class too.

Wow! After spending an amazing weekend in the Clare Valley to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we decided to have lunch at a local winery. Lucky us that they were booked out, so on our way home we dropped in to the Watervale hotel hoping that they were still serving meals on a Sunday afternoon. Fortunately for us I don't think there was a cut off time for serving meals. The staff were friendly and helpful - even the dog Frankie! The venue was amazing, beautifully renovated with a large outdoor beer garden. The wine list was huge, it should have come with a bookmark. They have gone all out with an extensive range of local wines including some unusual and intriguing blends. The food was incredible, high quality fine dining at its best. If you are after a pub schnitzel or salt & pepper squid then this is not the venue for you. I had the barramundi which was incredible. It is no wonder that the Chef and the venue have won numerous awards. If you want a fine dining experience with an extensive wine list in a beautiful environment then this place is highly recommended. I would love to come back in summer and enjoy the beer garden on a hot balmy night. I must reminder to thank the winery for turning us away for lunch!

A little gem in a place you wouldn't expect. Looks like nothing from the outside but once you get through the door it's a completely different store. It's has inside and out side bar service. Massive outdoor eating erea with firepits. Even has its own private jail which the owner claims can still be used for rowdy guests if need be. If I remember correctly I think ALL YOU CAN EAT pizza night every Thursday. Made in the open erea in Wood-fired oven. Brilliant atmosphere service and good.

The numerous awards speak volumes to the quality of this hotel.
The food, the service, the heritage, the EVERYTHING!
The owners are super knowledgeable about the history and the area.
The food is sourced locally and from their own personal farm. 😍 FABULOUS!

We looked forward to dining at the Watervale Hotel - we were not disappointed - it was excellent. Loved the cocktails and wine. Thank you Warick for adding to the night sharing with us the role of the biodynamic garden as a source of produce - and Eva for looking after us - and Eva - don't give up on Toyota - they are the best!! Thankyou Watervale Hotel.

Great food and great atmosphere. Loved that Frankie Blue is just strutting around doing his own thing.
